So what you are saying is… Putin did this.

So we won't see any increase in refinery output until well after 2024? Are high gasoline prices here to stay for awhile in the US?

The takeaway is more that when it comes to capital projects, NOTHING in the refining business happens quickly. A refinery is an incredibly complex thing and significant additions or modifications don't happen overnight.

That said, I'm sure there are projects in the pipeline to increase refining capacity at refineries all over, but those will have already been in the works since well before the events of the last few months.

It is my understanding that they could be up and running relatively quickly.

Not at all. Alliance is still on temporary power last I heard a couple weeks ago. That place is never coming back as a refinery.

So you’re saying Potato Joe screaming at oil companies to lower their prices* isn’t gonna do the trick?

* I know this will come as a shock to our leftist OTers, but oil is a commodity traded like all other commodities, and oil companies do not actually “set” the price of oil.

Dumbest administration ever. Destroying the whole domestic energy complex. No one wants to go into the business anymore Yet we will need more oil and gas for the next 40 years easily!

You're screaming into the void here, but you're right. The price of oil/gas is incredibly high all over the world. I guess Biden is to blame for the other countries, too.

Imagine thinking that the leader of the most powerful country in the world doesn't have international political or economic influence.

Joe Biden's legacy and future in office depends on an industry on which he's declared open war.

Sleepy Joe should have let them finish the Keystone pipeline rather then have it shoved up his arse dry.

When pandemics shut down chit and demand for companies’ goes to chit, it turns out companies contract to survive. So when demand fires back up post pandemics and supply lags because capex was not invested to produce to demand, prices go up.

Econ 201 for everyone!
