Counterpoint: Kirk was the epitome of a marketplace of ideas guy, and they killed him. Additionally, though the pendulum has begun to swing back slightly, "free speech" didn't keep people from being pressured to kneel, mask, black out their social media profiles, put their pronouns in their bios, pretend the sky was green, so forth.
The entity championing neutrality and free speech has been getting its arse handed to it. A caveat will be "but Trump won" - agreed, it's a caveat. Whether or not liberalism/free speech can reclaim rather than just slow decline is an open question. I think no, but I'm open to the discussion.

A child who has been told they are special and never faced punishment will act out when responsibility, accountability, and reality is met upon them. That's what we're experiencing right now.
