Sources tell WDSU that the building was purchased by two developers, Brian Gibbs and Lincoln Avenue Capital.

The developers hope to renovate the building into senior living homes.

The building used to be owned by Joe Jaeger prior to his death.

At one point, the city was looking at the option of demolishing the building if a sale did not go through.

WDSU Investigates has reported for years about the condition of the building, which is at the edge of the Central Business District.

The site has been a safety concern due to debris falling from the building and homeless people accessing the abandoned site.

I assume this project will never actually happen given the CRAZY cost it would take to renovate this building. There has to be some kind of tax credit or grant involved here

On its face, I would agree, but Gibbs is generally rather reputable as far as projects he's taken on and completed, and the fact that he's staking his name to it at least piques my curiousity.

Edited to remove the dangling k. I don't know why it was there, but realized it looked like I was making sort of a smartass response.

The biggest problem for many years was that it was filled with asbestos.

Supposedly its been remediated but...

Its just odd. You are talking many many many millions of dollars in work that's needed to that building.

The building needs to be demolished but it’s probably cheaper to renovate.

Regardless hopefully something gets done because the place has been a mess.

Asbestos is a problem for people in the long term. Old people don't tend to live that much longer.

Only a problem if you are messing with it creating dust to inhale

Otherwise asbestos is harmless

The asbestos issue was taken care of around 2010 and from what I saw of the building. It looked like everything had been stripped out down to the concrete walls other than plumbing and electrical

Gonna echo what others have said and say I'll believe it when I see it

didn't some debris fly off the roof and kill someone in the past few years?
