I would love to see this go to the Supreme Court.
You have a black mayor, with a majority black city council telling people who want to do business in the city that they have to hire black firms. Talk about Bizarrof*ckingworld.

Problem is nobody knows the circumstances of why the minority owned contractors percentage wasn’t higher.
Because they're aren't any minority owned companies that could have handled that project in Birmingham.
TG probably will come out ahead in the end from doing it how they decided to do it.

I see an issue right there...

I find it very relevant.
That's nice.

Either all are equal under the law or they’re not. How can there be racial equality when a government entity takes tax dollars collected from tax payers of all races and use that money to benefit one race at the expense of others?
Not sure racist means what you think it does. Nothing racist happened here.

How would yo react if a city offered incentives to a business to use white owned contractors?

Never mind, it's like 200k a year not just a one time thing.

Nothing changes with you. Someone could post on here about the sun rising in the east and you’d want to argue it came up in the west. You’re the worst one trick pony on the OT.

While I abhor the idea of hiring anyone based off their gender or race, Top Golf agreed to it contractually and took the incentive package. It's their dumbass fault at this point.
It's hard enough to hire competent help. I can't imagine having to narrow down my choices further with such arbitrary criteria as sex and/or race.
Agree 100%. TG signed the contract, so they must hold up their end to get the benefits. But that doesn't mean they should have agreed to it in the first place.

The government pushes minority, woman owned, and veteran owned small businesses all the time. It's actually in the Federal Acquisition Regulations so what would they fight?

That isn't cut and dry when doing a project in the City of Birmingham. It really means hire black subs no matter how much in the hole they put your project.

And as usual, the conversation moves to personal insults instead of addressing the actual topic.

A little confused as to why they need to offer incentives for a prime to use a majority of businesses.

Seems like either TopGolf and their GC didn't do their due diligence on available qualified subcontractors, then realized that were going to be better off just hiring the white-owned firms. Or, they did their due diligence, agreed to the terms for the incentives regardless, and hoped that the City of Birmingham weren't going to hold them accountable.
ETA: Agreeing to 30% and ending up at 3.5% isn't even close.

That’s rich coming from you. The total lack of self-awareness is amazing.

I swear Birmingham can never get out of its own way. We have had some of the worst leadership of any city.

They are using the term incentive loosely, it should be called a condition of building in Birmingham.
