A good idea in my opinion. If everyone can hunker down until the first week of April, Easter would be even better, then I think we could come through this relatively quickly.

ETA: I also have high confidence in the medical field in Birmingham. We have some qualities Drs and hospitals in our community. I have had a few symptoms for about a week. Cough, body aches, one day of shortness of breath but that's it. Called UAB, and while they wouldn't test, since I have mild symptoms and am not in a high risk category, they still had a doctor call me back within 24 hours to talk through things and give some advice, which I appreciated.

Atlanta has shelter in place as of today

I haven't thought of anything I've been doing for the past week that I can't do now under the new restrictions

In other words, the exceptions encompass everything anyone responsible would want to do

Agreed. People will still be able to go to the grocery store, go out for walks, bike rides etc. Ideally, people are already observing these guidelines and have been for the better part of a week. Doesn't hurt to have a city wide order though

What is the underlying reason for this besides just following along because other cities are doing it?

UAB has said we have community spread. I would imagine he is getting advice from the doctors there.
