the song has a rap beat to it. I don't understand how it was ever a debate to put it on a country chart or not. It's like saying "Billboard removes lil wayne from country chart"

Sadly it will not make a resurgence. People need to accept where we are as a society. There isn't much struggle anymore. We have it pretty damn good. There isn't much to sing about. That is why everything is pop.

Of course not. Twang naturally lends itself to country due to the instruments played and the natural accents of many popular singers through the genres history. There’s a lot of emulation to be sure.
There are plenty of singers who didn’t have that “Nashville sound” though
