Be a man. Go get your bike back. Whip his arse for being a thief. Think you can do that big fella?

There is nothing about a bicycle worth $4500, nothing.
So, you know how I can tell you knownothing about bikes.....you make a comment like this. Just because you don't ride, or have any knowledge about the technology, you make sweeping accusations.
A boat isn't worth 60k if you use that logic, but plenty of people spend money on it. A shotgun isn't worth 2k, but plenty of people spend that much on them. I could go on and on when talking about any hobby.
Going from a 1k bike to a 3k bike, I can seriously tell a big difference. And I see places that still could be improved. Wheels that give me .5 MPH advantage and save me a few minutes in a triathlon and make it easier on my legs are going to add another 2k to my bike. A lighter stiffer crank with power meter is another 1200ish and will let me gauge my power output to make it much easier to get through a half or full Ironman, a goal I want to accomplish in my life and willing to spend that money to achieve (much like someone paying 10k a year on a lease to shoot a trophy buck). There's a lot in an expensive bike that you aren't familiar with that make them cost that much. I will admit some frames are priced just because of the name brand, but all the parts and pieces can add up easily.

Here's a solution: contact the investigator's supv. and tell him that unless a cop meets him at the criminal's house TODAY to get your bike back that you're next call will be to a local tv station (especially if they do public shaming investigative bits on things like bad cops, crappy landlords, etc). Don't accept any answers that involve waiting.
If it's an aggressive station with a good audience, I can almost guarantee a cop will be waiting at the criminal's house to help you get your bike back.
This is probably the best bet.

so i should just be cool with a $4500 road bike taken when we know who has it and where he lives???? Some great pawn shop is gonna pay him all of $100 for it somewhere in the coming days if they havent already. He's had tons of arrests for thefts like this, look at the links i posted off google, this isnt his first rodeo. At what point do we keep a guy like that locked up once and for all for some serious time so he learns. So its ok to just steal and get off on a little probation every time????
You're the one that didn't "want to ruin the kid's life"
Frick thieves

Well theoretically calling the cops would be then thing to do. In reality they're not going to give a shite and will do nothing.

That approach was explored in Shameless S06E06.

I'd beat his arse and then I would beat his Dad's arse. then, I would take my dog over there and let my dog kick his dog's arse...

I'd tell the kid to give me my bike back and stand there while I punch him in the face... or I'll call the cops. Let him decide.
Not a bad option. Let him decide.

but the manager doesn't know how he's gonna get my bike back,

I don't wanna have this kid arrested or something and ruin his record forever
Surely the kid's manager has his contact information.
I'd just call the cops, but that's me. Rarely does one get to engage the police when they're not in the wrong

I saw this episode of Shameless on Showtime. Don't kill the kid with a hammer.

I would absolutely report that

We all know how bad arse jaw slapping LSU fans would react. There is another entire thread dedicated to it.

Like someone else pointed it.. it's not even as if he saw a bike laying around and took it..
He actually had the nerve to break a lock and take?
That's just ridiculous.
And he's 21?
He's a 21 year old breaking a lock to steal a bike?
I think the public shaming route is an interesting idea.. even more so than just police.

He has 8 other arrests that we know of, most for burglary, almost all for taking things that do not belong to him.
Stealing this bike was planned, in advance, for awhile.
Has anything else happened yet?

If you don't get your bike back, you should tell the restaurant that they are responsible for replacing it since they hire a POS and gave him access to your garage.

This run-on sentence contradicts itself!
This kid has stolen before and will continue stealing until he is stopped!
If this is the first time he was caught, he will get off with a light sentence. But he will be warned to stop stealing!
