Ignorance like this just astounds me sometimes.
There are thousands of people on bikes all over New Orleans every day. Just because someone peddles a bike around doesn't make them any more of a crime victim than a jogger or someone walking around.
It's not like they are going to have a bike station in the lower 9th and tourist will be walking up at 2:00AM to come rent bikes.
And yes, Nola is a very bike friendly city. Lots of street paths all over. Also, there are paths in and around city park, Audobon Park, the river, the lake front, etc. The new path linking the french quarter almost out to City Park is a nice addition as well.

Are the ride share bikes powered or not? I've seen them done both ways.

This is one of those things they do to make the city appear less poor and shitty, but in reality it makes the city more poor and shitty.

I used to ride my bike all over the city, from Uptown to the Bywater.
I was not a victim of bike crime, while on my bike. Now, my bike was stolen once from my house, and my friends bike was stolen from a bar once. But, never while we were riding.

I was sitting at a downtown bar at a hotel last night watching the hundreds of tourist leave the packed arse hotel to go take in the city.
I just didn't have the heart to warn all of them that the OT said they were all about to get robbed and/or shot.
I guess they were good though since they weren't going to ride a bike.
Must be a pretty big convention in town for things to be jumping like that for a Thursday night.

I did some pretty stupid/risky shite when I lived there and somehow I was never robbed or shot. You'd swear by reading this board that everyone who has been in the city for more than an hour is executed on the spot.

Your assumption is completely incorrect. Resided in NOLA for a few years, Uptown, Mid-City, and Lakeview. Dated a Bestbank'er for a couple few years that lived downtown. Lived in Houston for a year and a half and Atlanta for about 6 months. On top of that, with my previous employer, I traveled to just about every major city east of the Miss-a-sip.

In Dallas there are no stations.... It's a free for all..... I have seen bikes on my lawn right now.... And the Chinese ate about to drop 1000 more bikes next t week..... They all pay homeless people to ride around to boost their image..... I'M A bike guy but these bike share companies blow.
