Considering they already have a manpower shortage, having residency requirements sounds like a good way to make it worse while dropping the quality of your officer candidates at the same time.

I'm not even sure why we're talking about laying off at BRPD though. The city of BR pays for it and will continue to do so.
It’s no secret they have been using St. George money to supplement BRPD. That’s why they didn’t hire any new officers after the recent mass annexation. They were already stealing the money.

Maybe they should have been paying officers rather than blowing money in legal fees to win termination cases against officers they couldn’t win.

I don’t think people are realizing how much this is going to affect Ascension and Livingston. The majority of their population commutes to BR everyday for work. Now those people will have a good public school option much closer with an easier commute to work.
Yep. It could be seen as nice that folks in Central, LP, and Ascension are so supportive of SG because it makes them look unselfish. However, I suspect if they truly understood how a successful SG ISD would cause a decline in their communities they would pump the brakes.
I live in Central and this is the primary reason I'm sorta against the ISD.

Ascension schools are already overflowing so it would be nice to send some Of SWB’s Deplorable’s and their kids home to St. George.

You aren’t looking at the big picture.
Central like everyone else in the parish derives most of your services through the parish and much of that is through property taxes.
We get sewer service, parks, EMS, library, and mosquito from the parish. All except sewer is paid by property taxes.
The better any one area of the parish does the better off we all are. You should cheer for SG. You’d be a fool not to cheer for BR too.

Please move this garbage to the Political Board.

Again, you're not understanding. It's not about numbers. It's about quality. Once the good parents start favoring SG instead of AP then the less favorable people start replacing the favorable people in AP. That's how this shite works. Happens all over America.

I am. I think it is you that is not looking at the big picture. The quality of a community isn't directly derived from sheer numbers or services rendered. It's the people. It's good parents willing to deal with extra BS (either by paying a premium or dealing with traffic) and it's pricing out the people that you don't want to live there.
Hypothetically, if SG had a really good ISD then a good chunk of those new parents that would have normally taken up residency in bedroom communities like Central will instead move to SG. Prices start to dip or at least don't rise and then you have an influx of people that you originally ran away from.
If you want to see what that looks like, look at Baker.
Sure, the services will still be solid and the the local Boss Hogg will still be fat, but your kids will go to a lesser school.

Very short sighted. Don’t you understand that a small enclave like Central or Zachary can not survive in a predominant liberal parish?
They can vote tax after tax on you to support whatever they want. You either pay up or leave.
If you don’t see that I can’t help you.

Are you having a stroke? None of what you're saying holds water.
1. small enclaves can survive in both liberal and conservative parish/counties. There are numerous examples.
2. Nothing about St. George will stop EBR from being a predominantly liberal parish, so it's a moot point.
3. Even if incorporation of SG impacted parish-wide tax votes, which it doesn't - you can't leave the parish. St. George isn't leaving the parish. I'm not even sure how to make sense of your statements about paying up or leave. Taxing districts can change. Central chooses to receive certain services from the parish because it's a better deal than rolling their own. That would change if EBR got crazy.

As of today, Baton Rouge is about the same size and population as Lafayette, but with terrible schools and a horrible crime problem.
Now, let’s sell it as a good place to live.

Who do you think is going to pay to defend those suits? I’m guessing St George taxpayers.

As soon as Baton Rouge has its first layoffs of police and firemen, the support for law suits will vanish.

Sure they can, but do the parish/counties have the same type govt. we have? If there’s no balance they could double your property taxes tomorrow. You would be out voted. They could raise your sales tax the same way to pay for some liberal program you care nothing about.

It’s predominantly liberal now and getting worse. It could be brought back in balance by growing Central, SG, Zachary and with conservatives in BR. But yes, it could be too late.

BR population is stagnant. An ISD in SG could jump start a housing boom keeping families home. Look what ISDs did for Zachary and Centrsl. SG is bigger, let it grow 20% too and see if the voting dynamics could change in time.
SG is the only chance you Central and Zachary guys have. If the trend continues, SWB is just the beginning. Next will be sheriff, Assessor, DA, etc. Couple that with higher taxes and maybe you’ll start getting the picture.

Why the frick do you keep bringing up that BRPD is going to be having some kind of major lay-off? You do realize BRPD can’t even keep themselves properly staffed and have had major issues for many years trying to find LEO’s that start out making around $18/hr.
