If the forecast verifies I may cut off my water at the shutoff valve and drain my pipes.

This and if you can hook up a air compressor to blow out any standing water would be best.

I wish I had become a plumber. As it is those guys, if they setup their business properly, do well for themselves. In this sort of weather they will be booked up solid with repairs.

They always play it conservative this far out, but you can usually see it keep dropping as we get closer.
I was surprised to see 22 on TWC for BR this early, which tells me there’s pretty high confidence in the Arctic blast.

Moving water doesn't freeze. If you turn pressure off, water will pool at it's lowest points, ie your crawl space, and still expand.
The only way for this to work would be to turn on your outside hoses and then force compressed air in from your highest lines.

Or, you could leave the outside faucets running.

Either or.

THE best example of conservative forecasting is the little bitches at WBRZ. They show a low of 35 where everyone else is 15-25 right now.

They’ll finally cave to big daddy (National forecasts) the day before and say that it could get down into the lower 20s so cover your pipes and care for your plants and dogs. You’ve got six hours!

Hopefully, this will knock down the fricking mosquitos this summer.

This is an unfortunate old wives' tale.

Alaska might have the worst mosquito problems in the US and it's below freezing a quarter of the year there.

You guys know a hell of a lot more than me when it comes to the weather. With that said, I just checked the 10 day forecast and it shows that Sunday, there is a 40% chance of rain.. Highs in the low 50s and lows in the upper 20s. Then from December 31 - January 5th, the highs will be in the 40s or 50s and lows in the 30s..

Damn! I am not a big fan of cold weather.
