Damn!

Anyone go back to see the original post? That was FIVE days ago. GFS is pretty confident in this frigid air...

I've been watching these systems for the past week due to flying from NYC-Orlando this Friday then through Atlanta on new years day. At this rate, I might not make it down to FL due to snow in the northeast (though the models keep backing off for 12/29) and now I have to worry about freezing temps/snow flying through Atlanta on 1/1? I truly hope no one on here is scheduled to ever fly with me

Next GFS run only backed off two degrees.
So, 14 in BR.

Accuweather is on drugs this morning. Showing 4 degrees as the low New Years night in Ville Platte.

When was the last time BTR saw single digit temps? Exxon explosion in the early 90’s maybe?

December 23rd, and 24th 1989. Remember is vividly. 24th AM. Boom.

Accuweather showing 47/10 for BR.

The way the models are trending we’ll be likelier to hit 10 for the low than 47 for the high.

I’d say 37/17 is a more likely scenario.

Everything but the Euro on board for an unusually deep and long lasting cold snap across the south. Seeing 1040+ mb highs dropping down from Canada. One into SE Texas on one of the models. Big highs like that in winter are showing a big shot of dense (cold) air.

Might not get wintery precip, and I really hope we don't if that kind of cold sticks around. A freezing rain situation before would be a nightmare because it would be frozen on the ground for days. Power outages in extreme cold for us would be awful.

I’ve updated the OP. It appears this may be real this time. At first the GFS was on crack but now they’re all starting to trend its way. Prepare your homes and pipes and get firewood in case we have freezing rain because power outages with the forecasted lows and highs would, I repeat, WOULD KILL PEOPLE. The elderly and young are most at risk for this upcoming possible event.

It may not be a bad idea to stock up on a little food items as well in case the roads are all shut down from freezing rain. It’s important to remember, though, that right now frozen precip appears to be less possible than brutal cold.

I’m asking for a sticky because of the severity and historical nature of what’s now becoming more and more likely.

Winter is coming.

That was true last week but now it appears more and more possible that we will see some record cold.

I like a little cold weather during the winter as much as the next guy, but screw this. Louisiana's infrastructure just isn't prepared for it, therefore can't handle it.

Lows near 10 and highs below freezing for 2-3 days straight kind of cold is coming. Now would be the time to prepare any exposed pipes you may have

Hopefully, this will knock down the fricking mosquitos this summer.
