The RIvian loan ties their hand because it forced them to hire union workers at inflated salaries. This car company is DOA unfortunately.

The DOE actually has a decent track record on these loans for hitting their portfolio returns. They require a tag along co investment usually and are first seat for recapture in an insolvency event. The hate and blown out of proportion risk on these is usually misunderstood and politicized.
