The dishwashers by them are the worst.
The dishwasher in the new house was a GE and I can't believe what an absolute piece of junk it was. Its cleaning was so bad I'm not convinced it even sprayed water. I kept my hatred quiet for about a month because we were bleeding new house money until one morning my husband said, "This thing is absolute dogshit!" and we realized we both hated it. Went that day and bought a KA that was installed a week later and have been very happy with it.

The builder grade stuff is garbage - even the highest upgrades- learn from my mistake - if you are buying new - skip appliances from builder and get all BOSCH items - we have eventually done that anyway

If you have a fridge made between 1995 and 2006 try and keep it going.
And that date is not a coincidence, as many of you can appreciate.
Thanks Nap, and, in general, thanks for your generous good advice here.
You add value to the place.

We had to replace all our appliances after Katrina which everyone knows was in 2005.
We got GE fridge and dishwasher and Kenmore washer & dryer. All are still working fine.
Another affirmation on the appliance build date.

I'm hearing speed queen washers/dryers are pretty good?

We have been married for 47 years. First 2 were Frigidaire. Used our stimulus money 2 years age to buy a Bosch and moved the second refrigerator (about 25 years old) to the garage. Still working well.
One item that we always had a problem with Frigidaire #2 was the icemaker. Decided the hell with it and used ice trays.
As to the Bosch, the model we bought did not have any electronic gadgets and the ice maker actually works. They are more expensive but you get what you pay for.

Just had to replace my dishwasher and went with Bosch. Love it. Very quiet.
Those things are super quiet. You can barely hear them running which I presume is why they put the light on them to let you know.

Don’t buy a Samsung - anything.
This is true for their appliances. They’re considered the Fiat of appliances.

GE bothers me now. You have to him the machine up to the internet to do most repairs. Change the fan? Need to update the pcb on the internet.
Yep. I have a Subzero at the house and it has been bulletproof. When I bought the GE for the beach, they delivered and we loaded it. The next morning, everything was melted. Called GE and they told us it would be 3 weeks before they could send someone out. I got my guy to look at it and the compressor wasn't plugged in from the factory. OK. 2 months later, everything was melted again. GE said it would be 6 weeks before they could send someone out. My guy pulled the panel off and everything was iced up and frozen to where the fan wouldn't work. Junk product and junk service. I would guess I am at $1200 worth of food lost and $500 paying "my guy". GE has offered me $100 in compensation.

Our relatively new Frigidaire refrigerator is fantastic.

The fact that consumer reports has LG top rated makes me come to the conclusion that either Consumer reports are being paid on behalf of LG and its processes are so flawed.
The issues with LG are so obvious to techs that work on repairing LG machines that I no longer trust Consumers Reports at all. A $1,000 repair might only last a couple of years, basically planned product obsolescence by design problems that aren't repairable. People keep throwing money at these issues, which only benefits LG.

MIL bought my wife a Samsung washer / dryer set a few years back.
The washer lasted two years before breaking. It would have cost more to repair the washer than to replace it, so she got a base model Maytag. 5 or 6 years old now and no problems yet.

Speed Queen quit making the old school washers and dryers with no electronics. They make them with 3, 5, or 7 year warranties now. But they all have electronic controls. I bought washer and dryer with 7 year warranty year and a half ago. So far so good.

The more tech they put into these things so they'll be more energy efficient ("green") the more shite there is to break.
Not to hijack the thread, but cars have gone down the same shithole in the last 10 years.
Some of the crap I work on has over 30 friggin' control units in them all communicating on a CAN network.
It is ridiculous.

The Montgomery Ward chest type freezer that my dad bought in 1946, when we moved off of the farm and finally had electricity, is down in the sub-basement and still perking away. I had to replace a couple of fan motors in the first couple of years but that is all that it has required. Might have to replace the electric cord pretty soon as it is starting to crack up. Back then they built things to "military spec" as we had just come out of WW2.

Whirlpool is a pretty salty brand. We had a washer and dryer that lasted 13 years with 3 4 girls in the house. We were doing 2 loads a day. I sold them when we moved down and they were still working.
