iPad.

Stop every 2 hours for outside play.

Time it around nap time.

Do you have kids? This kid is 4 months, not 4 years.

Our guy is a like a reliable clock.

We are VERY strict about his schedule and it has worked out so well for us. Obviously road trips can be a bit different, but when we're home he starts yawning within 5 minutes every time of his nap time.

The book "Moms on Call" for the motherfricking win.

Bring a tablet and let them watch some Youtube videos.

Who holds the tablet?

My 4 month old has full use of his neck and can sit up and roll over, etc., but there's no fricking way he could hold a tablet up for longer than 20 seconds to watch something.

We were too. Which is why the "keep him awake all day" is horrible advice.

We moved 5 1/2 hours away when my son was 3 months old. First few months were travelling every week and the family came with most of the time to pick a house. Honestly, it wasn't hard. 5 1/2 hours turns into 6 because you have to stop at least twice. But my son slept 90% of the time. If he ever got fussy, the wife just got in the back with him and it was fine.

It's actually more difficult now that he's 4 since he doesn't sleep as much and instead of just changing a diaper, you have to take him into a disgusting bathroom. We might get an hour of napping, and the other 4.5 are it or miss. He's in that "how much longerrrrrrrr" stage.

When my baby was 4 months old, she would sleep all the time. We drove to the beach at like 2 pm and she slept for the entire 7 hour trip. Even had to wake her up to feed her. Now it's not so easy.

Have a parent stay in the back seat with them and rotate toys/play. Otherwise, drive past their bed time. We did the first option with our older one and it went well. We now travel exclusively for long road trips at night with a 2 and 4 year old

The spouse that isn't driving sits in the back with the kid and holds it.

Traveling with a 4 month old is easy. They mostly just sleep and eat. Plan for extra stops for feedings and diaper changes. If they are fussy one of the parents sits in the back with them. Leaving when it is dark helps.

Just map out the feedings and you should be able to space out 2 seperate 3 hour naps

It really depends on the baby. My niece was a calm baby. She would mostly be fine napping. My nephew would cry for hours, and there was no way around it.

Nothing. Sorry....Travel at night right after they conk out.

Absolutely the best plan of attack. If that's not an option then you or your wife will have to take turns riding in backseat to keep them happy as much as you can. If the kid is into Mickey mouse playhouse yet get the subscription on YouTube and hope you have unlimited data.

This. Just start the drive about 1 hour before his bedtime. Dress in PJs and an overnight diaper. About an hour in, give him a bottle (Or nurse). And he will go to sleep for the ride.
