re: Best way to handle a neighbors barking dog?

A lady I know just had to get her blood hound's vocal cords cut because their neighbor kept calling the cops. Don't be a bitch or this could happen to their dog.

So the guy whose dogs were making noise across the property line says you can't make noise across his property line? What a hypocrite. Also just as hypocritical is how he thinks it's ok for his dogs to negatively effect your property value (nobody will buy a house next to dogs that constantly bark) but you can't negatively effect his by trying to keep the neighborhood quiet.

That one is on the owner. If you don't have a place for a dog then don't get a dog.

Send the dog a text asking him to tone it down. Then pst something on the owners Facebook about it

Half a bottle of NyQuil mixed into a half a jar of peanut butter. Use entire mixture in a pb and NyQuil po-boy. I promise it will work. He'll be quiet for awhile. He'll sleep for a good amount of time and he'll wake up feeling a bit hungover but SO much better.

Beat the dog to death. I've done it on multiple occasions. It's a great stress reliever.
Bud Kilmer knows his business. However, he may be insane.

God forbid you calm down and give the dog a couple days to adjust to its new home.

There are bark control devices that look like bird houses. They emit a high pitched noise when they detect a bark. It shuts most dogs up very quickly.
In most cases, these do not work after the dog gets use to it in a couple of days. I bought one on Amazon and also a dog whistle...still no relief. "Dog people" never seem to hear their dogs constant barking and if you ask them about it, they get all defensive about their "child"!

Go over and talk with them first. Any reasonable person will at least give them a chance to make it right.
A reasonable person realizes he can't negotiate with a pit owner.
Pit owners refuse reality and reason prima facie.
PS: To the OP- You are in a trashy neighborhood. Move.

owner could put a no-bark collar on it. it emits a shock when the vocal cords are activated.

we had this issue too but it was really the neighbor letting the dog outside at 3am.
It would bark for hours.
Finally one night I had f'n had it and (yes this is trashy as frick but I was so frustrated)I went out to my back deck and yelled "put the f'd dog inside" at about 4am when it's completely quiet
minus the dog barking
next day, the neighbor who is an odd-bird anyway brought me an animal trap. He was also holding a plastic bag with a bunch of shite in it. It was peanut butter, anchovies and other weird foods. haha
I immediately said I was sorry for yelling and just told him I was upset and couldn't sleep for the 10th straight night.
He told me the dog was barking at a possum and wanted me to put the cage in my backyard to try and catch the possum. I didn't even know what to say. The issue is not the possum my brother. It's the dog barking. You can't catch every live animal in your 'hood.
You have to wonder about ssome folks but that that was the end of the issue so all good.

I actually thought that was illegal...

Start from the premise there are no bad dogs, only bad owners. It's not the dog's fault, his owners made him what he is.
Pretty sure he said alpha, not beta.
Also, does OP live in city limits in Arkansas? Pits are illegal in most cities in Arkansas, so you could at minimum threaten the neighbors with turning them in if they don't keep the dog inside (at least at night). Even if it's not illegal where you live, tell them it is and they'll have a hard time finding any kind of info that explicitly states otherwise.

The proper white guy move is to petition and grease under the table your local city council and have an ordinance enacted to ban the pitbull breed from your neighborhood with zero animals grand-fathered in.
Force your neighbor to act without any incidents.

Some of these answers have been making laugh hysterically.
