Ah, gotcha. I've never been there, so I had no idea. I assumed there was a reason it wasn't being mentioned.

Dauphin Island is only someplace you would go if you want a completely quiet beach vacation and don't plan on anything else.

Rent a beach house. Sit on the beach. There might be five restaurants to choose from on the island.

Dauphin Island is where you go to get away from everything, especially people and unwind, with a house on the beach.

Not romantic, just relaxing.

Ocean Springs is a pretty neat town but the beaches are shitty.

When is the last time you were in Callaway? It's gone to hell in a hand basket

I love the Grande Hotel, but it's not on the beach, but Mobile Bay.

I'd rather be on DI with the lack of traffic/folks, than gulf shores or anywhere in Fla. It's just easier/cheaper/closer and pretty much the same deal if you don't have interest in going out at night.

the Venice comparison earlier in the thread is laughable

Agreed, although the forgotten coast is much better for this purpose and has better beaches (but is considerably further coming from that direction).

I'm not taking shots at DI, i enjoyed it, when we traveled there a few years ago. We had a great time, even though several family members that went are the complete suck.

I enjoy the laid back places Dauphin Island, Cape San Blas, Port St Joe, etc. I want to sit in my beach chair, pop open a cold beer and relax. I don't want to hear bratty kids, d-bag Hipsters, tourist dilrods, just the sounds of the waves, and any wildlife in the area.

Thats the big reason we go to Aruba over the tourist trap islands in Caribbean. It is a super laid back island, ur there to enjoy the beach and chill.
