Now that you mention it, there is a route to the Gulf Shores area that takes you thru Bellingrath Gardens and on a ferry ride to Dauphin Island. It is quite nice.

It will be the last season for the Henderson Beach Inn before it is torn down and rebuilt. A wonderful spot on the beach, adults only, a great restaurant and a really cool historic building that will have you thinking you are in Cape Cod.
