I get your argument but I just don’t think places 40 miles from the state capital should have the same amenities as other real rural places like Jena for example.
To be fair, you can get anything you need in Jena or any rural town, and if not then driving an hour from any little town in the state will get you to a city. Plus with the innovation of buying "things" online, there isn't much you can't get.
If it weren't for "work" reasons, I don't see why anyone would want to live anywhere besides a Jena, Harrisonburg, Mansfield or a Bunkie type town (talking Louisiana, insert any rural town with room to breath). Its a small state you can get anywhere and back in a day drive easily.

Agree. If it wasn’t for employers mainly being located in populated areas, the state would be more evenly populated. From a geographic perspective, I’d choose somewhere near the Mississippi state line northern Washington or St Helena parishes. Close enough to BR, Nola and easy access to gulf coast beaches east of Mobile.

If you have school aged children and homeschool, move out to the country in St. Helena. It's right at 40 miles and the commute is not bad, in fact it is rather enjoyable.

I wouldn't mind it but I can appreciate that not everyone likes living in a small town or rural area. A town with 25k people has everything I'm interested in these days.

No doubt, some people like living in larger cities and enjoy being able to instantly walk or drive down the street and buy this or that. I was mainly just saying that living in a super rural town (or around one) doesn't mean you can't "get groceries."

Prairieville is a growing disaster thanks to Corey Oregon, Kenny Matasa, Aaron Lawler and Casso.
Infrastructure is non existent because they've pocketed that money while looking the other while developers ignore the rule book.

There is very little in St. Francisville. Two grocery stores, a few lame restaurants and little else. You'll have to drive distances to buy much of what you need for around the house.
Which is what makes it great.
Keep the quiet in St Francisville

I was thinking about this earlier due to this thread and we are pretty close. Give me this within 10-15 miles and that's enough for me.
Mexican restaurant
Decent burger joint
Decent pizza
Gas station
Hardware store
Grocery store
Place with a semi-decent beer/wine/bourbon selection
Dentist
Family doctor

I grew up in Montpelier. There are a bunch of worse places to live. The problem is the lack of quality schools unless you go to Oak Forest.

Is the End of the Line still around? Man we used to go there in HS when everything else was closed.

$260K homes in Plaquemine are not in an area where you would want to live, are they?
