We had it at our house last year since he was so young, but it was a headache with all the prep and cleanup and would just rather pay to have someone else worry about it. Any good suggestions for around the BR area? Kids will be of all ages.

Don’t have a party. The kid won’t know the difference.

Yep. Save your hundreds. Your 2yr old won't remember. Outside of family, nobody really wants to go.

Believe me, if it was just my decision I would be all in for this. But wife and family says we have to have one.

Highland Park

Let the kids run around and play in the playground, bring some cupcakes, open presents, go home. Profit

They're 2, it's not like their play date or preschool friends will be offended that they didn't get to play video games at Chuck E. Cheese. If your wife is insistent on spending a bunch of money, rent a pony or a jump house.

Not to mention the fact that every year you'll be expected to outdo the year before. Start with something reasonable now, or by age 10, you'll be renting the Taj Mahal.

Birthday parties have gotten so out of control. I'm glad I was done with that a long time ago.

Oh, and eta, let the little buggers play out in some fresh air. Won't hurt them a bit.

BREC Parks are a great resource if you're in EBR.

This is a great idea for something outside and easy pick up.
In case you didn't know, you can RESERVE these but it's not free. If you don't want to chance getting booted from a pavilion, go the reservation route and you'll have proof it's your spot for 4 hours.

I've been to Highland and Forrest Park for spring/summer kid parties and they both have age appropriate playgrounds/pavilions/splashpads(if it's warm enough).

Rates to rent BREC Pavilions

quote:

All parks are still first-come, first-serve for picnic pavilion usage. However, park users can now rent pavilions in a growing number of BREC parks. These park sites are in high demand. Renting a picnic pavilion allows the park user to have some "peace of mind" when preparing a child's birthday party, family reunion or association gathering at that park. If you rent a pavilion, then there is no reason to go to the park to "stake out" your tables and pavilion ahead of time. The site will be clean and ready upon your arrival.

Just hire a party planner and catering company to handle all the headaches and clean up. Have a theme for the kiddos (bring a mobile petting zoo or a pastry chef to make neat desserts or somebody to make sno balls or a small band to play music). Whatever you do make sure you have a bar and bar tender on site for the adults.
