Look for a classic black suit. This will be my first so I need sizing, etc. Where is the best place to go in the Shreveport area?

Nordstroms or Saks in Dallas. Get measured, copy down the sizes and then order the same suit online for like 1/3 of the price.

Hugo Boss, Zegna, etc. etc. are the best entry level brands.

funeral? mardi gras? otherwise, don't buy black. and if it's your first, i'd start with something cheaper than hilburn and pickens. try Dillard's

Specifically Mardi Gras, but I'll use it more obviously. What are some quality but cheaper brands?

Do not get black then. Get navy. Black suits are for funerals and the FBI. Navy is good for any occasion

Well I know it's not completely practical but I need it for two upcoming Mardi Gras balls.

Most people wear tux's, but I can get more use out of a suit . It will be dark, no one will know.

What about dark grey? They seem pretty flexible.

Navy or Charcoal Grey. You'll look trashy in a black suit. And white or blue button downs only. Bright solid color shirts with suits = trashy too.

don't wear dark grey to a Mardi Gras ball

just go buy a cheap black suit but buy the jacket 1 size too small
