Best overall luxury vehicle: Audi, BMW or Mercedes?

Which among these is the best value for money and is relatively cheaper to maintain (ex: easy to get it serviced at a local European mechanic rather than go to the dealer)?

If you had to pick one of the three, which would it be and what are your reasons?

Cue the "you shouldn't be buying any of those cars if you're worried about the maintenance" responses.

Do Japanese luxury brands such as the Lexus, Infiniti and Acura have a stigma when compared to the German cars? Do people think of them as just glorified Toyotas, Nissans and Hondas? Anybody that has owned both a Japanese and German luxury car want to weigh in?

None.

Do not own these cars out of warranty, if this is a concern.

Well, Cap, it's true.

Te Asian marques are better in this respect, but they can still hurt your feelings. Go price a brake job on a Lexus.

Acura is a fine car, but they aren't in the MB or BMW class, IMHO.

I have owned and driven Jaguar, Mercedes, and Lexus. Jaguar is the most emotionally satisfying and driver enjoyed IMO- repairs to the V12 were expensive but what an engine. The Lexus is quiet, efficient, and luxurious enough to become a soul-less entity, a tabula rasa, for those who want to be insulated from the driving experience. The Mercedes (old S500) is the best combination of them all. Superior handling and grip, horsepower to spare, and it gets mean if you push it hard. It gives you great build quality and engineering, with every effort to provide the best driving experience. They do a good job of it. If taken care of, it performs well and lasts a long time.

Reviewing luxury automobiles: You're doing it wrong.

It was a great car. I dated it but didn't fall in love. My story.

My wife's Jag has been dead-solid reliable.
(wood knocked )

Easiest car to drive fast from jump that I've ever driven.
I haven't driven a TATA Jag, but hopefully the Indians haven't ruined what Ford straightened out.

I'm seriously considering an 08/09 A8 Quattro, never had an Audi before but have driven a friends. The interior is the best out there for my tastes.

They're generally considered better than the base mode German cars except maybe Audi.
