IDK. Foxborough is the middle of fricking nowhere.

And Covington/Mandeville is definitely bigger and nicer than Hamburg, NY. And far, far less depressing (had to spend a winter there on a project).

They built a huge shopping area around Gillette stadium. It could work if they found the right spot on the north shore - probably in Tangi parish somewhere between Covington and Hammond. But keep in mind that nobody builds big malls like that anymore with the rise of e-commerce. This thing would have to stand on its own somehow. Maybe LSU and ULL can each play a home game there once a year to help justify it.

The Buffalo example is interesting. That's a fairly impoverished town like New Orleans, but far less dangerous. It's a small market city like New Orleans. And they chose a very static, almost rural location for their massive stadium. They somehow make it work despite having an open top stadium in probably the worst winter climate during football season.

I think the Saints would make it work in the Hammond-Covington area. I bet the state would even kick in a bunch of cash to build out a new freeway exit on I-12.

Disagree, we just have a particularly shitty mayor. That will pass.

Orleans Parish just had the opportunity to get rid of Latoya, a near universally hated mayor, and she won reelection with only 48,750 votes in a city/parish of 383,997. Give me a reason things will get better. It's obvious the populace likes to complain but can't even be bothered to get off their arse and vote for one day.

The only hope that city has is if we start making some of those offices regional.

Regional means New Orleans has influence over St Bernard. No thanks

Will obviously not be a GOP candidate, but there are democrats who want to get crime under control by increasing NOPD staffing and resources.

Increasing NOPd will do little if people are not being kept locked up

She ran unopposed essentially and nobody was showing up for any option in that election.

The next election should actually have some decent contenders.

It’s a lot easier for the city’s leadership to just get its shite together. But that won’t happen as long as the residents keep voting for the retarded politicians with no plan or intention.

When Gayle dies the Saints are getting bought moved to either London or Austin and the Pels are going to Vegas or Seattle. Enjoy it while you can for the next 10-20 years. The leagues will fully support the moves.

Another huge issue.

One of the guys arrested after breaking into cars the other day has an extensive criminal history, yet he is still out on the street.

I didn't realize that she is 75 years old. I thought she was younger.

She's 75 now so, 20 years might be a stretch.

ETA: From Sept 2021

METAIRIE, La. -- New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owner Gayle Benson and team officials revealed the teams' long-term succession plans in detail for the first time on Wednesday, telling The Times-Picayune and WVUE-TV that they would be sold with the goal of keeping the teams in New Orleans and distributing the proceeds to charity.

Part of the issue is that having the Superdome and the arena where it is is proximity to Bourbon Street, the French Quarter, Jackson Square, St. Louis Cathedral and the hotels.

The main reason why the Super Dome still exists is that the Superbowl, Final Four, Sugar Bowl want and need to be within walking distance of all those attractions in New Orleans. A stadium in Covington or Jefferson Parish is not attractive for big events that New Orleans needs.

A better solution would be to tear down the dome and have the Saints play two years at Tulane or Tiger Stadium and build something like US Bank Stadium or Jerry World.

I guarantee whatever piece of shite billionaire buys the teams won't honor Gayle's wishes. They will likely be gone by 2040. I don't want it to happen but I'm just being realistic.

Metairie would be the obvious choice to me. Basically still New Orleans but safer and better managed city

I don't think any of us have the capacity to understand the lengths the State will go to in order to keep the Saints here. Also, Gayle has insinuated that the team should somehow belong to the State, or something or the other.

Personally if Gee were king I'd give the city the dome and say "yall deal with this shite". None of that sports shite provides any value to the other 4 million people in Louisiana.

The only reason the Saints move is when Gail Benson dies and the Arch Diocese get it, they sell to the highest bidder. That bidder will probably be out of state.

Them moving will have nothing to do with NOLA, it will have everything to do with $$$$.

NFL wants a team in NOLA because of the venue and hosting capabilities in NOLA, but they may not have a choice.

yap. Any new arena really has to be built where the current Superdome sits. They are dumping in ton of money into renovations right now (Dome is still crap) but I would guess by 2035 we should know if they are ready to commit to building a new stadium.

Benson likely doesn’t give a shite about the city and would definitely sell or move for the right price.

Used to think she would sell, but everyone close to her says she will die owning both teams. She is a NOLA diehard.

Hopefully the right people get to be in charge of her legacy.
