I’ve recently seen this discussion on the Nextdoor app about how good are the goverment schools are in EBR. Much to my dismay, not one person in this discussion mentioned a single school let alone a magnet school. Yes, I know there are a handful of magnet schools that provide a decent education. With that being said, what non-magnet and non-private government schools are good in EBR?

I’ve never heard of one and I just want to dispel my implicit bias that EBR government schools are terrible and a waste of $700 million worth of tax money. Additionally, the teachers do not deserve any pay raise. You shouldn’t be rewarded for failure. While we are at it, please remember these are GOVERNMENT schools as in Louisiana government.

Fixed the mistake.

I think that kindergarten in Southdowns is supposed to be pretty good.

It's probably Woodlawn if we are excluding Central and Zachary since they have their own school systems.

There's a few decent elementary and middle schools. All the high schools blow arse.

Why do you want to dispel the truth?

Tara is in a nice neighborhood but the school sucks. They have something like a 48% graduation rate and a F rating now.

They started going downhill in the 80’s like broadmoor. Those schools used to be decent and some kids over there are gifted compared to the general student body. They only go there because their parents can’t afford private school or don’t want them going to a catholic school.

My mom is a Tara grad and lives in the neighborhood. I'm in my 40s and remember a lot of the schools in SBR being decent. That being said, we live in the Tara district and I'd move in a heartbeat before I sent my daughter there in 3 years.

There isn't a good public non-magnet school in BR.

ETA: I was only thinking about high schools. No clue about middle or lower schools.

Parkview Elementary. It’s the only A rated, non-magnet, elementary EBR public school. It is excellent.

My comments were really only pertaining to HS. I couldn't even name many of the elementary and middle schools.

We live in Parkview Elementary's district but my kid was already in private when we moved here. We would have stayed in the burbs if we were going the public route.

We might finally have a winner. I was thinking that it might be Shenandoah elementary but that was many years ago too.

When Broadmoor started winning basketball championships and not football championships it was all downhill.

I’m a mid 70’s Tara and most public schools were good or good enough back then.

Woodlawn and that’s saying something if Woodlawn is the best public school in EBR
