Good Krewe, but for my money, the most fun is Tucks on Saturday....it's a riot disguised as a parade. Toilet Paper, go go dancers....guys riding motorized recliners. They have plungers

Napoleon and Magazine is the technical starting point for all the parades on Sunday but Thoth which starts way farther uptown.
There's some public spaces right there where you'd have room to spread out a little, it's what we do, now. We set up, no cooking, though, around the basketball court on that corner on the downtown lake corner, well back from the crowd. We can still see everything from our seats, dart across the street to the coffee shop for drinks and bathroom. Getting out is pretty easy, there's parking all through the neighborhood once you pass the second or third street from the route.
Parking enforcement is out in full force in those neighborhoods, though, BE CAREFUL. Best idea is to have someone drive you down on Saturday to park while everyone else is in Mid City watching Endymion.

NEVER bring your family to one of those parades. Watch them on TV. Or if you want a family friendly venue go to Mobile and watch their parades. So much more of a family atmosphere. Plus sponsored by "Moonpie", Bonus.
If you want to party, N.O. is the place to be (if you can't get to Rio that is).

Depending on where you are, I could agree with your statement...however, watching Endymion from Orleans Ave to the corner of N. Carrolton and Canal is as family friendly as you can get...

Either uptown on Napoleon Ave near the beginning of the route, or Metairie around Cleary is usually good

The very beginning of Endymion between city park ave and Carrolton is pretty family friendly. Just don't expect to get very close to the floats you will most likely be a good 20 people back from the barricades unless you have a ladder.
ETA: Didn't see the post a few above me.

LOL
I bet you anything that the stretch of St. Charles being mentioned in this thread is way more family and a hell of a lot less trashy than anything in Mobile.

I agree on the parades already suggested but if you prefer a slightly smaller crowd and a family atmosphere, the first Sunday of Mardi Gras is good too. Anywhere on St Charles before Jackson Avenue is pretty safe. Area to avoid- the area more towards the interstate, the area across from the Avenue Pub, around MLK at night. We watch the parades at St Charles between first and second. I ride in King Arthur, we have 1200 riders this year! And there are three other parades the same day including Carrollton.
Not as familiar with Metairie Mardi Gras so Metairie people could tell you which parades are still good.

OP Just come on down to Houma
ETA: You will definitely catch more and be close to the floats. Will have to park on a side street or pay to park in a parking lot as all the along the street parking is reserved and if not very territorial. I was paying $350 to park my truck for the parade season.

Pretty much anywhere on St. Charles before the expressway is ok, but I would focus on the area between Louisiana and MLK. Louisiana to Napoleon will probably be jammed packed already and also too many high school and college kids in that area. MLK to the expressway isn't bad, but its definitely more urban.

LOL to anyone that says Metairie. That is white trash fights galore
Metairie would've been the right answer pre-K. These days it is just pitiful out there.

Been riding for years and I can say without reservation, this location is great. Lots of porta potties you can get a membership for the day that are kept spotless by church members. This is where I sent my kids years ago and now they take their children to the same location.

Thoth Sunday morning right around Whole Foods on magazine is a perfect spot, especially for families. Otherwise st Charles and napoleon is good for families, but it's more crowded and more difficult to get in and out of.

Is neutral ground on napoleon near st Charles still under construction?
