Best legal way to go about collecting money from someone for work you've done?

So I did some work for a guy. He hired me as a 1099 employee and I held my end of a contract and now owed about $300.

So for the last 2-3 months he has been giving me the run around completely. From his 70+ year old wife depositing the money in the wrong account (money transfer), to him being out of town and handling it when he gets back, to he is waiting for another contract to pay him, to yada yada yada

What action should i and could I take?

I have documentation where I completed my end of the deal. I also have hundreds of text of him claiming he knows he owes me the money and pretty much how he is a pos.

Dude is probably close to 80+ years old, I've told him plenty of times he is trash and should be ashamed,

Also I do know from taking to others that he advertises for employees and work at one of the local job employment centers. Should I contact them and let them know that they help this guy get in touch with workers and that he doesn't pay his contracts?

Dude is a piece of shite.

not sure

And captain, I do know where he lives but obviously would never be violent toward a damn 80 year old and definitely not over $300

Threaten to contact them. Then do it. After that, just let it go. Nobody is going to give you the time of the day to go after a $300 debt.
I guess you could shame him if he or his company is on any social media sites if you feel like it.

Get a Legalshield membership, a lawyer will send him a letter, that's usually enough.

Duct tape
Glock
Tarp
Shovel

In that order. Problem solved.

If it is inspection type work, just drop a nickel on him. No paper trail is in your interest, or just tell him that.

I have a couple attorney friends, one a girl I date. I might see is she will shoot him a letter for the frick of it.

I will say that every time I shoot him a text message, he is quick to respond and he doesn't try to deny he owes me or anything. It's just always a new excuse and he will always shy away from giving me a definitive answer of when I'll be getting a check, always answered like "I promise I'm going to pay you as soon as I can"

What does 1099 mean? He is sending a form to the IRS for wages he paid you? If so and he didn't pay you the full amount he is reporting I think he would be in trouble with IRS.
