My dog has been on science diet light for a while now. Recently my dog has developed an allergies and is itching like crazy. Bet recommended changing his dog food. What's a good healthy brand to change too?

Anything grain free.

Canidae is the cheapest premium food.

I feed Zach's brand from Costco or diamond natural.

My dog eats Life's Abundance. I think it's a healthier brand.

What a racket.

I bet he did. Did he recommend some cheap alternative, or Blue Nature Nutrition 8000?

My parent's boxers have to eat grain free food. If they eat food that isn't grain free, they scratch like crazy. Mom orders online and has it delivered. I know it's much cheaper. I don't know the website, unfortunately.

There is no magic bullet food. Your dog may be allergic to protein in the food, so anything with chicken may be bad for you. Out of the easy to get foods, look at Fromm Grain Free or Merrick. Try different protein sources til you get one that works.

BARF diet like recommended above also does wonders, but you have to be willing to deal with raw food and veggie slop. Works great, but I got away from it because of a baby that gets into everything.

This is a hypoallergenic food, mixture of rabbit and potato, prescribed by a vet who specializes in pet allergies.

It depends on what he's allergic to. If you're not sure then you can have the Vet do an allergy panel to figure out exactly what the dog is allergic to so that a proper diet can be tailored. Most likely you will need Rx food if he has severe allergies.

It's not a "racket" at all. We have dozens of pet clients in our clinic who have been helped by adjusting diet based on allergic response findings.

Holistic Select, Candidae, Merrick, Blue Buffalo, Acana and Taste of Wild would be all brands that I would consider.

You'll get a lot of different responses, but trust me on this...Hill's prescription food works wonders, and dogs normally like it. You have to get help figuring out which one.

My Doberman is allergic to carrots. Most dog foods use carrots in their ingredients - they are a great "filler."

Brands I listed above are "premium" brands and some of those don't have carrots included in their ingredients.

Best bet is to get your dog tested to find out exactly what he/she is allergic to and go from there.

Victor is also another brand I would recommend - a little less on the pocket book.

Yes we recommend Hill's and also Royal Canin foods. Been feeding my dogs Hill's since day one and their coats love it.
