The west side of the Intracoastal is pretty decent.

Mamou. They teach offshore safety at the high school.
All jokes aside that is pretty cool that they do that.

I once saw a Montana license plate in Mansura. Figured they made a wrong turn somewhere.

Nope. It is terrible. Stay away. Go to Youngsville to raise Jaeydiynn. He'll never have a better environment to achieve plant operator than Youngsville. He'll be bathing in truck nuts.
Lafayette is the best city in Louisiana to raise a family. It's not my favorite place in Louisiana, but that isn't the question being asked.

Been a while since I lived there but north of I-20 was frickin Mayberry.
Somewhat, overall Ruston is far from Mayberry and a lot more crime than locals want to admit. The far north side is maybe somewhat Mayberry, but just north of I-20 there's some lower income housing and areas full of mostly rent houses. They are also about to add some major low income housing projects right next to La Tech.

I dated a girl who would always brag that she was from a small "country" town. I'd never been to Harahan so I didn't know the fields she was talking about were the golf course.
