I run a 391 pretty regularly. It's a very good saw for the money IMO.

If I had to guess, stout would be best fit with a 261

If a 391 is good, why stop there? Why not a 400?

I've had a 440, a 460, and a 660. 460 is the best out that group because it isn't that heavy and can run up to a 36" bar. I had an 18" that I used on the 440 and the 460 occasionally, and they screamed

I've owned well over 100 chain saws of all different sizes and brands. Husky and Stihl have some really good models and some not so great models. For homeowner saws, the husky ones are absolute crap and Stihl is the way to go. My advice, get a used pro model saw like a stihl 260/361 or a husky 357.
Another way to go is get a used rental saw from home depot for $200. They are makita saws made by dolmar, a german company that's been around since the 20's and are extremely reliable. They are a bit heavy though.

I ran an old dolmar for several years. Heavy is an understatement. That bastard would kill you after a full day. It was very reliable though. I'd like to know how many hours I put on that thing.

Stihl site still lists them and the local shops up here have them in stock.

Makita has a rebranded Dolmar that seems to have good reviews and is pretty inexpensive for a 64cc saw. Had an Efco for a while that was a great saw when it ran right. Heavy though.

Nevermind the Makita, for some reason I though those were cheaper than $700... Still a pretty good saw and would nice addition for the Makita fanboy.

Husky by a mile I have a 55, 395 & 540 tree saw. Stihl dealer network blows near me both Are great but I like husky the exp I have with Stihl are finicky about fuel whereas the husky I swear would run on pond water.

I know some loggers and they all use stihl. Myself and everyone I know who owns a saw owns a stihl. We all cut our own firewood for the winter every year. Not a single yuppie amongst us.

Well I can honestly say I've never seen a redmaxx saw anywhere but the store shelf.

IMO that's all the evidence I need.

RedMax does make some good shite and are severely underrated, but I am not sure how good their chainsaws are.

I'm sure they're fine.

I know a pile of loggers and they all run commercial grade stihls except for one, and he has huskies. I'm sure if redmaxx was that much better, they'd all run that. Q

Not a fan of the 261 or 271. Not that they're bad saws but a 251 is great with an 18" bar and the 291 is solid for a 20". I generally only recommend those saws for customers wanting to run an 18" like a raped ape. It is a limited market for sure.

Stout is likely running a 20" with a 290. If he wants to upgrade at that size, IMO, he needs a 391 or 362. Personally, I like the 362.

Husqvarna owns RedMax, bought the company to acquire their strato-charge engines. In fact you can look at some of the models now and see the exact same thing with different colored plastic.
