Best bang for the buck: small flashlight

Had enough of the 3-4 cheap Chinese versions that I click and then have to shake and shake to get light. Then, who knows which brightness shows up.
Something under $20 that’s dependable and as bright as possible is what I seek.

Durable, dependable, bright, and has a rechargeable battery.

I have numerous flashlights I have bought off of Amazon. You can find damn good lights for 20-25 bucks. Just read the reviews it is pretty easy to sift through the crap.

I've had good experience with the little Coast lights I've bought.

Almost all the stream lights are great

Another vote for Fenix. It doesn't meet your $20 budget but it's a "buy once cry once" kind of light. I'm pretty sure mine could light up the whole neighborhood on its highest setting

Did what Ponchy said, even though I didn’t really need to be informed of that technique.
This has solid reviews and fits the criteria. Anyone have experience with this brand?

There seems to be a trade-off between brightness and run-time.
I have a small flashlight that’s brighter than the sun, but it won’t last for more than 20 minutes (it seems) that I use for work.
Even though switching out to a freshly charged backup battery is easy, it’s not ideal for working on a project at night!

One of the better subreddits is r/flashlight
Most of the chatter is about custom made flashlights that require questionable power sources and some serious heat output.
They have great suggestions for regular lights too. Plus you can search the lights in the sub and see performance.

Nitecore P20iX. Not cheap but it works great.
