Your quality of life in Baton Rouge is almost entirely dependent on where your job is relative to where you live. Make sure you live where you don't have to cross any of the following streets to get to or from work:
Airline Highway
Perkins Road between Acadian and Siegan
College/Lee Drive
I-10

Westminster is a great neighborhood. Good size lots. Good neighbors. Convenient to get anywhere in BR (quick access to 10, 12, Jefferson, Airline, Bluebonnet). Caveat is older houses. Some have been renovated, some still need updating. If you are willing to do that work, you can find a good deal from time to time.

I cross over Airline at Coursey and it's not bad. Bluebonnet at Jefferson sucks arse in the evening though.

Or go in early and leave early to avoid the worst of it. Or late/late if you prefer.

The 70809 is a war zone. Don’t even think about it . Yesterday Chauncey had a croquet mallet strewn in his general direction. It was quite unnerving.

That's a nice area that has aged very well.
Broadmoor and Tara of similar age to that and also feature larger homes with large lots. Not as desirable as Pollard, but they both seem to be having a lot of renovations right now. They are in a good, centralized location with relatively easy access to all the major employment centers, medical districts, and major highways.
Steele Blvd and Hundred Oaks are probably my favorite parts of town. Parts of southdowns are cool too. I love the tree canopy and the easy access to the LSU lakes.
If you like newer construction, there are a lot of options with both in fill developments and entirely new neighborhoods.

"Live reasonably close to where you work" is a rule that improves the quality of life in every city. You really save yourself a lot of headache if you can commute efficiently without using freeways. Even better if you can use public transit.
If you work downtown or at Exxon, you should probably consider mid city (or even Zachary or Central if you want a suburb) over Walker or Gonzales.
If you work at LSU, you really should consider southdowns or the area along Highland or Perkins south of campus over Shenandoah or Denaham Springs.
Essen/I-12 area employers are pretty close to a lot of very good options nearby. That actually seems like a pretty good spot to develop medical and commercial office buildings.

I live in this area, and I really love it. I have the heavily trafficked Lee Dr. right by home, but I can just cut through my own neighborhood and be on Highland near Kennilworth where there is never traffic. I love that LSU, Overpass, Bulldog/Southdowns, Highland/Kennilworth, etc. are all within 1-2 miles.
I miss Mid City/Garden Dist. and would move back in a heartbeat, but I do really like my area too. Friend of mine lives right on Webb course and I like that area as well. Those neighborhoods run deep back there, and there are some badass houses. I'm a sucker for the few mid-century mod 70s houses back there.

That's a nice spot too. A cousin off mine lives in there. The landscaping at his house has the "slightly overgrown" look, but I'm a sucker for dense tree canopies like that.
That's a good, affordable neighborhood with pretty good access to everything in south Baton Rouge.

Seriously though, I have lived in 70806 old Goodwood, 70809 Jefferson/Fairway, 70806 Capital Heights, 70809 Webb Park and 70810 Oak Hills
As others have said, it is all about where you work because traffic and commutes are a bitch. At this point in my life, I'm either staying in Webb Park, Old Goodwood or Bocage if I can afford it. I like the character of the neighborhoods, the older houses, the lot sizes and their convenience to amenities.
