Best:
Texas
Georgia
Tennessee
North Carolina

Worst:
Oklahoma (if you consider it southern)
Louisiana
Arkansas
Mississippi

Y’all probably won’t agree. If you don’t, explain where I messed up and why.

Edit: North Carolina and Mississippi were both added by popular demand. Florida will stay somewhere in between.

I can get behind that actually. The majority of the state (everything south of Gainesville) I don’t consider southern though.

Florida should be #1 in both categories.

Border to border North Carolina is, in my humble opinion, one of the most interesting and coolest states in the country.

Louisiana and Mississippi are bringing up the rear. Best are probably NC, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida.

I don't really consider Texas southern even though East Texas certainly is.

It’s not. We just keep a low profile on this board.

I was just thinking in terms of quality of life - jobs, crime, economy etc.

SC seems like it's on the upswing for sure.

Mississippi is arguably the worst at every metric worth looking at.

Best and Worst for what? It's all a matter of opinion, further, I don't think you can lump an entire state into just one category. If you're a city person, looking for action, you won't be choosing Southwest Georgia over say, Birmingham.
Also, what about terrain? If you want to go to the beach for weekends, you aren't going to want to live in Nashville

Florida is not that southern below Tampa. Mississippi doesn't have much to offer.

You baws talk about about Louisiana, so I believe you.

Kentucky is okay from western to central to northern, but eastern Kentucky is as bad as the national stereotype you see daily.

It's all subjective. I'd live in
Huntsville over Memphis but I think Tennessee is a better overall state.

Quality of life is fairly localized. What happens in Bastrop really has very little impact on my life.
