Mississippi is arguably the worst at every metric worth looking at.
If you stay out of Jackson it's pretty good in the metric of not living in shitty big cities

Florida has the highest highs and lowest lows in tSouth.

As far as Deep South goes, MS is the worst IMO. Louisiana is saved by New Orleans - as pathetic as that statement is - but the rest of the state might as well be a shittier Mississippi.

Alabama and Tennessee are the two best Deep South states IMO. Alabama has by far the most topographic diversity in the South and Birmingham/Huntsville are reluctantly dragging the state into the 21st century. Tennessee doesn’t have the variety that A1abana does but has by far the prettiest areas as well as cool cool cities/towns to live.

If I had no family or friend connections to anywhere in the south and you made me pick a stage Id be forced to live in I’d pick Tennessee and last would be Mississippi

Texas Georgia Florida North Carolina Tennessee are easily the best

Louisiana Mississippi Alabama the worst.

But I will say that cities like Huntsville are impressively growing. And are a model for crappy Louisiana cities.

Louisiana and Mississippi are the two worst. And I don’t think it’s close.

Generally the eastern South is leaving the western South behind. Texas isn't "South", it is "Southwest".

Best: Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, (SC very close to top 3)

Worst: Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana as easily the worst.

ETA: NC would easily be top 3 if you consider it a “southern state” but I think it’s generally looked at as more of an eastern-coastal State.

Crime and education. Mississippi has made huge strides over the last 5 years, monumental

Correct. People in Louisiana are still living in the 80s where they made fun of Mississippi and Arkansas because Louisiana was a 2 inch taller midget at the time. Arky and Mississippi have hit growth spurts. They have introduced progressive approaches to their industry. Louisiana is still trying to legislate like it’s the 70s. I JUST got done driving across the eastern half of the United States and Louisiana is by far the shittiest state we went through.

Mississippi is pretty much absent any major employment markets. I'd easily choose Louisiana over Mississippi as a place to live. It's a midget fight though.

Not sure I agree but you make a good case for Alabama. It's an underrated state in several ways, although a lot of the criticisms are fair. But the simple fact is that Alabama is a state where if you're relatively well off you can live in pretty nice environs and you won't have to "do without" like you might in Mississippi. I mean, I have friends who are physicians in Mississippi and come to Atlanta for things like haircuts and pretty normal professional wear.

I'd argue Georgia has the best topographic diversity (in the deep south) but Alabama is close.

Considering the way people talk around here I can confirm ETexas is southern. And Texas is one of the better states in the country.

If people think our state is so bad,I wish they would quit moving here.

Let's talk about the pricks who come to our states from other states.Stay away.

Like I said on pg 1, quality of life is mostly localized. Southern Arkansas ain't great but Northwest Arkansas is a nice place to live by Southern standards.

This is the pinnacle of terrible posts. Over generalizes to a degree that makes the topic hopeless. Every state has great areas and terrible areas. Same generalization applies to every GOAT WOAT topic. Sigh.

Florida for both.

Louisiana at least has originality, true southern heritage and food.

If it werent for crooked politicians failing the state, new Orleans would be a better place.

Louisiana should be a middle tier Southern state. It's just been run by corrupt morons for 100 years. It really wouldn't be that difficult to fix some of the problems either but we keep electing more of the same.
