Medina is sitting at a little over 2% full, it's over 6000 acres when full to just over 500 currently. I grew up on the lake, it's hard to see. This post was edited on 7/5/24 at 8:53 am

Brutal. Hope y'all get a start on getting it somewhat back to normal here in the next few days.

Houston may get a little flooding, but the good thing is the Derecho 2 months ago pretty much cleared out all dead and weak foliage. Even with a TS/Cat1, power outtages should be minimal.

Also wind direction was complete opposite from tropical activity. Probably in for some pain if this thing picks up steam.

Won’t matter in places like Timbergrove that got complete cleared out

I drove through there a few days ago, and there are still a lot of tarps on roofs. I wouldn't think they'd be too happy with a strong storm again...

7 am. Just N of Playa del Carmen. Rainy. There’s spotty wind damage—a couple of smashed power poles, a collapsed facade, some trees down—but overall, #BERYL was an unraveling mess, and I was surprised the landfall intensity was 95 knots. I believe the strongest winds I experienced were in the eye—perhaps the remnant circulation from the collapsed inner eyewall. This junk storm makes 71 career hurricane core penetrations for me. I’m glad for #Mexico. P.S. No data to report yet—I still need to go back and collect the devices I deployed.
Reading this and the fact the scientific models kept initializing the storm much weaker than the NHC was claiming makes the conspiracy theory side of me wonder if it ever really was a Cat 5. Election year and the left needs to push climate fear so maybe the govt leaned on the NHC to overblow it in order to get the “record setting storm” talking points

Lol most of this thread is discussing how beryl has been stronger than modeled, which is pulling the forecast track north a little.

I’ve seen some videos claiming the GFS has been the primary indicator for landfall but that it’s been inaccurate. The videos have said to use the ICON which has been forecasting a closer-to-Houston landfall all along. Any validity to these claims?
