Delta showing a flight out of Montego Bay to ATL tomorrow afternoon at 5:00pm. $564 in Comfort+

I'd pay double or triple that to not ride out a Cat 5 on an island

Yeah I saw those flights.. problem is that's the time when the hurricane is supposed to be hitting the island... And I'm not to sure planes take off in a hurricane

Yep. Won't show up on next advisory probably, but it should after that.

I thought the same thing until 2022, when I caught the last flight (Delta) out of Punta Cana with Hurricane Fiona making landfall. I took this screenshot of the radar right before takeoff. It was wild because their version of TSA was not even at the airport - only some workers boarding up windows and putting sandbags down.

Are they actually saying it’s the worst storm they’ve ever faced?

Brownsville now in the cone…
I don’t understand how they are not predicting it to strengthen in the gulf, it’s like August level bath water right now.

Does the shear extend to the gulf as well?

Without knowing anything, my guess would be that it will strengthen some but not be able to get back to a major storm because it is moving so fast. Maybe someone with more knowledge of these things can add to that.

Yes the conditions in the atmosphere still show the gulf as not favorable for the hurricane.
Water temp is just a part of the equation.

Takes a lot more than hot water for a storm to strengthen.

Upper level environment isn’t supposed to be favorable.

This is a slight indication of what’s to come this season….

Hurricane Emily was the first big storm in 2005….

Yep…

And that’s why they’re saying it’s not going to strengthen.
