Completely understand! It's not an easy position to be put in for you- and like I said earlier, I know we're just hearing part of your efforts and their resistance.
All I'm saying is that you get more flies with honey. Your job is not only to get them to go paperless, but to find out what motivates them.

shite happens even in a paperless office. For every obstinate fossil you've got some overconfident kid who gets in over their head because they think they know everything. Working with people is messy. It's a wonder anything gets accomplished at all.

Maybe if you weren’t such a dick they wouldn’t be offended.

It would not have been hard at all to phrase this into a far less offensive statement.
You could have been just as effective, but far less offensive by being more inclusive with your statements. Compliment them on their knowledge of MS-DOS And then remark that technology is moving forward and WE ALL need to learn the new systems. Self - deprecation is very effective.
Ding ding ding

Well if you said this, you very likely came off as a prick.

It is kind of like when Sonny spoke out of turn in the meeting with Sollozzo. And you saw how that ended up.

They have no idea who Sonny is.

This is where you messed up making it personal with some of your team members. Stick to talking about applications that superior to older applications and you should be alright.

And this is why the country is going to poopy.

You tell me how to utilize people who hate computers and like doing everything with paper. Then reconcile that with the crowd who are comfortable doing things one way, with older technology.
If you can not figure this out, you should not be in the job position you are in. You should be sitting in a small cubicle with a mouse and keyboard.

I do, and considering I'm only 21, that's ageist!

The offense? "I think it's no secret that the majority of this team is more familiar with MS-DOS than Windows, much less some of the newer cloud applications. We need to change that."
Can’t imagine how this could rub some the wrong way.

quote:It does and it doesn't. When you have processes and operations that are operated by men and women in their 50s, "tried and true" is so often the norm. This means that some systems and apps are still using code with Fortran and run with windows XP on 2003 servers. "We know it works" drives upgrades rather than "this is newer and easier".
Technology evolves and ages at a extremely rapid rate.

Kind of like watching youngsters trying to change a tire or oil or fall a tree or build a barn.....

The offended parties...65 and 70 years old.
How do you avoid these problems in the future?
Time will take care of it for you.
I have 23-26yo people in my office who struggle with basic computer skills like using the tab key to cycle through a form instead of clicking in each box. I can only imagine your pain.

Fell a tree. See, my generation is not completely devoid of useful skills.

About 2 weeks ago It stormed hard one Saturday all day. I laid up on the couch and watched all 3 Godfathers.
They just don’t make movies like that any more.

You going to post things like that on Ash Wednesday? You might have a little bit extra to say it to church tonight.
Lol, like someone like you goes to church. Haha

I binge-watched all 3 recently, too! I can't ever just watch one.
ETA: LCA, you know I don't care enough to really lie about my age.
