Look, I understand you're frustrated but some of this is straight up being mad. I am prone to mistakes, but exactly no feedback you have provided has been helpful.
While this is not a business setting you clearly are not learning anything from your mistakes.
Here's another saying for you,"When you find yourself in a hole, quit digging.
NoHo, I don't know anything about you, but you sound like you've got your head screwed on straight.

I’ve only worked along side two elderly gentlemen at my job, both retired now. One was useless with a computer. The other was a wizard on computers.
The wizard was from California.
The moron was from Louisiana and spoke fluent French.

Then you also suck at reading comprehension.
1. Talk with your employees, not at them. If you are working to update/upgrade your applications and technologies, then tell them that. Let them know how it will effect them and their jobs.
2. When you are updating your technology are you also updating your ongoing processes? If so, that needs to be integrated into your training. If not, why not? If you're upgrading technology to improve efficiency, also make sure your processes are updated.
3. Ask your employees why they are resistent to change. For people who have been around long enough, like the 65 and 70 year olds, this is just the latest iteration of "this is newer, more efficient, more reliable" and they are thinking "here we go again, we get to learn something new that will be replaced in another 6 months to a year when it doesn't do what they were told it will do."
4. Change is scary to people. Even good change is scary. Don't bark orders at people and tell them they are old and stupid. Probably not the best way to get them on board.
5. Changing the technology you use doesn't actually change the underlying fundamentals of the job you do, the business you are in, or the product you provide. It only changes the technology you use. It may be more efficient, but what exactly does that mean for your business and the people who actually do the business. Efficient is a nice word that executive level managers like to use, but they can't really qualify to their employees what that means to them beyond that they get to do more work or some of them get to lose their jobs.
6. Take a little more time to understand the people that you work with and that work for you. They are actually people. No matter how efficient your software, if the people using it don't understand it or don't want to change, then the software is useless.
If you respond to everyone who comes to you with this same kind criticism and derision, then you will never have people under you who are willing to work for you; and they are the ones doing the actual job. So, stop being a fricking prick.

Well, I'm old and have some experience under my belt that helps. Besides us resentful old broads really don't have anything better to do than pick on youngsters
How you doing?

I've been neglectful about reaching out, I need to. I apologize but will remedy the situation soon.

Thanks. It's amazing what PhD level coursework in Organizational Development can teach you.
Not to mention the Master's Degree in Counseling and working with executives who have to clean up the aftermath of employees committing suicide on the premises and off, current and former employees who show up with guns and blasting away, counseling sessions for employees being laid off due to "efficiency" and group meetings on how to handle an active shooter situation.
I'm actually enjoying being underemployed and resentful. If I never have to face another guilt-ridden executive who had to call in a critical incident debriefing to deal with an employee death or any of the above, it'll still be too soon.

Living the dream. Book is ready for publication. Putting the finishing touches on the cover. Probably e-pub this one just to get it out there.
About 1/3 of the way through the outline of the next one. Hoping to have this part of it done by beginning of summer. And possibly full first draft by the end of the year. Tough to write and hold a full-time job.
Other than that, just missing my stalker.

Where the hell do you work?
Rhetorical
Maybe I should be thankful for these challenges lol

Sounds like you might have a discrimination suit on your hands if either of them are let go.

"I think it's no secret that the majority of this team is more familiar with MS-DOS than Windows, much less some of the newer cloud applications. We need to change that."
I think the offense is that you're a moron
No way these people are doing anything in DOS

I hope you're not typing this from work. The bolded portion alone will suffice as age discrimination and your company insurance will settle that as an EEOC claim in a heartbeat, and it will make the local news.

I used to work for an EAP. I was the one called out to deal with the aftermath of all the shite that happens when people are stressed to the very end and feel they have no other way out.
Now, I'm an assistant. The worst thing I deal with is when the afternoon coffee is late.

You should truly stop devaluing your workers because they don't understand tech the same way you do. Most of the challenges you are facing are you, not your employees. The sooner you figure that out and deal with it, the better off everyone will be.
Posted on 2/14/18 at 12:18 pm to NoHoTiger
Nobody is being devalued. The insubordination and obstinance are the only complaints I’ve presented.

I thought someone as advanced with tech as yourself would appreciate someone OLD giving you double backups on line.
In case something should happen to his.

Lol nobody is being forced out or adverse policies implemented. If hoping difficult employees leave voluntarily is a problem, then guilty.
