How do you avoid these problems in the future?

Learn some diplomacy. The old adage, "it's not what you say it's how you say it" still rings true.

So, business buzz word bingo...Again, what does this mean to your company and to the people who work there?

Being less skilled isn't a "protected class".

Don't confuse less skilled with not yet introduced to. Just because someone isn't up on the latest cloud applicatons doesn't mean they are actually less-skilled at their jobs. It means they aren't up on the latest coud applications. Start working with people and introducing them to it. Offer training.

Oh, and quit being a fricking prick.

, for starters, you should probably stick to factual criticisms. I've got a hard time believing any team is more familiar with MS-DOS than Windows.

I disagree and this is primarily the reason why we have such unqualified people in management today. They think you should earn it with time, rather than technical skill or employing a solution-oriented approach

This is a learning curve that's generational. Modernizing a workforce that's obstinate to change and development, combined with resentment of younger generation passing them by in the corporate ladder.

I'm a person accustomed with conflict to drive change, but I realize not always a successful strategy. Usually works better with men than women. I think institutional knowledge is a key to success moving forward but trying to reconcile with outright insubordinate, older employees is a difficult task.

very true.

i would add hefty price tags and risk for "newer and easier" upgrades also slow that technology evolution.

Executive level for our organization. I have a set of managers under me. Some are excellent. Some not so excellent. Just like everywhere else.

You realize management is not just about doing the job, right? If not, please don't try to become management.

So, you have a different approach, are younger and more hip, so you deserve it?

How many people work in your office and how many different programs/applications/technologies do you employ?

You should lead with this. This will definitely get people on board with you and your conflict-driving-solution-oriented-approach to change.

The second half of that statement completely discounts the first half of it.

No

Being older and more experienced with people gives me an advantage when working with people.

And if this is how you talk to the people you are supposed to be managing, it's no wonder they are obstinate. It has nothing to do with change or technology, it's you.

Look, I understand you're frustrated but some of this is straight up being mad. I am prone to mistakes, but exactly no feedback you have provided has been helpful.

If you were promoted based on merit and not seniority, you need to check your merit IMO. People skills are important too. If you're not able to make the necessary adjustments to yourself to effectively lead and motivate those under you, you're failing at your position.

Who said anything about not making adjustments. I came here with one comment that I said the wrong thing, clearly.

Jumping to conclusions.

You may be right but just having technical skills does not automatically make a person a good manager or leader. It seems that you are stuck on the problem of older employees not embracing technology.

You are probably stuck on this because you are still wet behind the ears, think your technical skill set makes you better than them.

What you lack are the people skills that older experienced employees have learned. That is not your fault as you have spent your limited working years focused on technology instead of people skills.

You would be best served by partnering with one of those older employees and work together on a plan that will accomplish your goals.

I think you're absolutely correct. I have tried to seek a partner here. I'm pretty affable but I have only been here three months. They're still feeling me out, I understand.
