I don't believe racial relations have been set back. Because BLM planned and incited riots does not mean most people share their opinion or political agenda.
The left has carefully used the liberal media to imply there are racial problems.
Perception is reality.
We must hope the majority of Americans can see thru this and vote accordingly.

I see ppl of different races all the time in my small town in south alabama and we all get along great.. Now I'm no idiot but just in normal conversation its very cordial.. Politics and media really just divides us.. Very sad...

I was not middle class when I was younger and grew up in a fairly poor neighborhood that was about 60% black in New Orleans. Many of my friends as a kid were black.
My dad got transferred to Houston, started making more money, and we became upper middle class and lived in a mostly white suburban area. But I played basketball and I was good. So I used to play on AAU teams and a lot of my teammates were black. Because of basketball, I was friends with black people all over Houston, both of the same social class and poor.
It was all good back then.
Surely there were problems, but I’m talking about race relations.

So you were high school age and no social media. There’s your answer. Same with me to be honest. Race relations in inner cities was not great, and the argument from black folks that they were being mistreated by the police was certainly still being made.
These things were just not amplified by social media and they’d not boiled over like they have today.

It all crumbled after Chappelle Show stopped.
We used to all laugh at the differences between us all (including ourselves) and enjoy what makes us unique.

There was an expectation with many white voters that voted for Obama that it would put an end to talk of racism in this country. When Obama spoke out on racism, those white voters felt betrayed.

Which was empowering to many black folks. That has certainly become a problem for many, particularly where I’m from.
Many of these people aren’t outright racist. They aren’t burning crosses. But when the narrative began to change and people began to speak out, things became uncomfortable. I’ve seen this with my own family.

one thing he did was express his complete disdain for law enforcement. This gave a green light to erstwhile losers to commit violent acts including the shooting and subsequent killing of many in law enforcement. The way he took that idiot friend of his "Skip" Gates word which led to the 'beer submit.'

At the park the other day everyone out there talked to us when they came by. We were picnicking and playing.

At the start of the covid pandemic it was probably the best it has ever been. Everyone seemed to be together to fight the virus. Almost like a complete 180. Almost like yin-yang, almost like a reaction to fear, almost like some sort of mental illness.

This is right on the money. Facebook was full throttle by 2006, Iphone in 2007, Obama in 2008. And no, I'm not saying having a black president was a bad thing, I'm saying it was an extremely hot button issue (centered on race and identity politics) that coincided with the rapid rise of social media and smart phones.
