I was reading this thread and had this exact house in mind. We have some family in Thibodaux and when my grandmother was alive she had a knack for knowing everyone's business . No idea if it's true or not but when this house was going up I remember her saying this was being built/shared by 4 different Indian families who were all doctors.

I think for quite a while construction was also halted because before the house was ever finished they had foundation problems, wasn't that whole area pretty low/swampy back before they built everything back there?

Anyway, no idea if any of that is true or not, just what my nosey arse grandmother said

I don’t understand why today Americans want cars and homes that all look alike.

Used to everyone wanted something unique and beautiful

Spent a lot of my childhood Sundays in that church.

RIP Bayou Corne camp

Many small towns have similar churches- New Roads and Donaldsonville have similar ones

You can get a lot of house in these post NAFTA deindustrialized towns. Had a buddy buy a mansion in a small Mississippi town for a little over $200k after his job went remote.

Yep.

The downside is they are a bitch to heat for us Northerners and maintenance/remodel/rehab costs are high.

It took a lot of searching, and dollars, to find a guy that still did smooth plaster ceilings.

And when you are done it won't appreciate nearly as much as a place closer to population centers.

Mont Helena in Rolling Fork, Ms is one of my favorites. Gorgeous home built in the 1800s on top of an Indian burial mound. It fell into bad disrepair and was almost to the point of no return when a distant relative of the original owners decided to raise money and restore it exactly original.

There is a beautiful house on La highway 427 ? Between Monroe and Natchez that faces west it’s on the east side of the highway. I think the family owns maybe a trucking company

There’s probably a reason that house is used for weddings and tours and nobody actually lives in it
