Wanted to ask this board how y’all pronounce the word “bayou” considering this is mostly Louisiana folks.

Ran into a guy that pronounced it “By-Yuh”.

Is he from a certain part of Louisiana that says it that way or is that the correct way to pronounce it?

This is how transplants trying to act like they are from louisiana say it

Similar to transplants saying Nawlins or crawdad to try and sound local

That's how the people who actually live on bayous pronounce it, not some dude from a rice farm in Crowley

Cajun accent will sound like this

"Bye-you" - Mostly everyone else who says the word

"Bye-O" - I've found these to be country country
"rednecks" if you will

My dad and people where he grew up say something like “baigha” and it’s just like one long syllable. I don’t know how to describe it, but it’s kinda weird.
