Instead of allowing impact to be absorbed by the bumper as designed, it basically stiffens the vehicle, forcing impact through the frame
Have ever actually seen how a hitch or bumper attaches to a vehicle? They essentially attach at the same points.

I remove mine, but i'm not trashy or wanting a broken knee cap.

Only rated for 10k lbs. That isn't a hitch.

I do. Keeps bitches in Corollas, texting on their phone, from hitting me from behind and doing any damage.

Yes, has saved me front a small rear fender bender multiple times.

I only tow my 18' boat and my 16' tandem axle with my backhoe on it. Its good enough for that.

I've never removed my hitches- bumper or goose neck.
I did watch a jogger hit my bumper hitch in the parking lot at Varn Villa back in the day. I honestly felt bad for the guy. He hit that thing in full stride. Didn't do anything to my bumper though

A couple of busted shins and getting a car wash brush thing wrapped around it was enough for me to take it off.
Also, it was a pain in the arse fitting in the garage with it. I had to basically nudge the wall with the front bumper.

Yes. So if someone gets to close to me when I park I can take it off and have an extra six inches.

I leave it on. I use it often. Plus it's a good bumper guard.

Indian woman (dot) rear ended me in Tampa in rush hour. She hit my hitch and poked a hole in her bumper. Got out checked and left after telling her i was good. I had no idea what ahe was saying and she could not understamd me.
If not for the hitch I would have been stuck waiting for a cop in 95 degree heat.
Leave it on.

I leave it in. When it looks rusty I replace it, because I am not a poor.

I used to take it off because of the extra space as well as not wanting it to get stolen but..
Some guy rear ended me in his Mazda while I had the hitch on and it did zero damage to my truck but put a dent in his car.
I've kept it on ever since.
My only complaint is that they make the newer hitches too small and they are too loose and can rattle from time to time over bumps.

Always unhook. First that extra 6 inches can be a problem. Second, I hat hitting my shin or knee on it at night, or in the dark walking behind the truck!

I always leave it in.
I got rear ended by some trash in a 1989 Chevy Celebrity and the hitch destroyed that thing. He actually had the nerve to complain to the cop that his damage was only as bad as it was due to the hitch and "shouldn't that be illegal?" The cop looked at him like he was trying to claim that the sky was purple and said "well, shite happens."
