I remember when they splashed that tennis shoe across the television screen. It was the result, I believe, a shoe print found under somebody’s window or in the cemetery. I don’t remember.

Anyway, everybody’s response was essentially the same. That’s not a white man shoe. That’s a black man shoe.

I also recall a group, I can’t remember the name, after the police released the image of the shoe a citizen group wrote a letter to the police, I guess it was, asking for the police to release the guesstimated height, or weight of the suspect, a blood type, anything to help the public Narrow the search. I don’t recall the police ever releasing any sort of information that would’ve helped the public and reduce fall leads.

I lived in BR in those days and I remember stopping at a Sonic to get a chili dog. I parked in a slot towards the back and they requested that I park up front. I guess they thought I might be the serial killer and was fixing to snatch someone.

I was a little insulted by that, but whatever.

Another idiot neighbor broke into her house and got arrested. Allegedly, he thought the cops weren’t doing a good enough job, so he wanted to go investigate the scene himself.

I remember the time when DTL was terrorizing BR very well. I was working out of town and my wife and kids were scared to be alone.

One of DTL's victims was the mother of a boy in my sons class and cub scout den. They were pretty close friends and it really shook up my kid, who was about 7-8 at the time. In fact, he refused to go to any sort of summer camp for a couple of years because the murder happened while his friend was away at camp.

Think I’d read she was on the phone with her dad the afternoon before when some black guy came up to her townhome and said something. She had mentioned it had freaked her out. Wonder if she just opened the door for him the next day or exactly how that went down. I assume it was DTL the day before

I wonder what happened to Mary Fowlers body, which was never found. Everyone knows it was DTL. I know in WBRP, they went through every inch of the parish looking. I hope one day they find what is left of her. It was Christmas eve.

I know SVG used to work at Xerox. When I was in college, I worked at a court house and it was during the time they were looking for a serial killer and when they arrested SVG the women in another department told us about how SVG had come to their office on two separate occasions to fix the copy machine.

Months after the second time he went out, they needed repairs on a copier and the manager asked if they could send someone else other than the guy who came out the last two times. The women in the office said he made them feel uncomfortable. Evidently there was one women he would openly stare at, which I am pretty sure he was the first and only man to ever stare at her.

She looked about 15 years older than she was. She had cigarette and coffee teeth and had smoke voice.

Anyway, he would stare at her and when they would ask him a question he wouldn't answer. And he would leave after fixing it, without any explanation. Of course I am sure there was some exaggeration in the story, but they did show us a PO with his name on it.

Maybe not, but the ladies in the department he would go to were known for exaggerating.

I had 4 links to Derrick Todd Lee:

Randi Mebreur was my former SO’s old friend from childhood They rode the school bus together.

Gina Green, murdered on Stanford- I grew up and was friends with her ex husband.

Victim D Colomb in Acadiana - An immediate family member was a client.

Pam Kinamore- I saw her around, most often at Parkview Baptist.

So 4 of the 7 known victims, which was statistically kind of weird but Baton Rouge always had that kind of small town connections vibe.

Gillis- no connections .

This is a story my mom told me and I don't completely remember all the details, but a lady she graduated with lived in Baker.

One day she was at the grocery store and DTL passed by and was friendly doing so, but asked her if she lived.. where she lived. He told her he passes by her house every day to go to his house and he always sees her outside in the yard.

After that he would blow the horn at her every time he passed, sometimes would stop just to ask how she was doing. A few other times they had ran into each other at the store and had a quick casual conversation. She didn't think nothing of it. She was either a real estate agent, or did it on the side or something, but she had told them that in one of their conversations.

It might have been a day..maybe two days before he got arrested, but he had come knock on her door. She said when she opened up the front door, the dog got between her and the screen door. She said the hair on her dog was standing straight up and he was being unusually aggressive to the point she she slightly opened the door just to ask DTL if she could help him. He could hear the dog and he backed up and he told her "Oh.. I am about to leave town and I wanted to see about selling myself, but I will come back later".

Then like I say, he was arrested either day after or a few days after, but she told my mom at the time, that looking back at it, it was almost as if he knew they were closing in on him. She also said her dog was obviously sensing something and it was her dog that caused him to step away so if he was going there to harm her, he dog saved her life.

I remember going on a field trip to the local parish jail during elementary school. The warden showed us shanks, contraband etc, talked about gangs, a trustee spoke about his regrets bad decisions, etc. Could have been in coordination with the DARE program back in the 90s.
