DTL's son shot and killed his high school buddy in 2018, but it was an accident. He was arrested and eventually convicted on three charges including principal to attempted robbery, obstruction of justice, and negligent homicide. A majority of the sentence was deferred, leaving Lee to serve 60 days in East Feliciana Parish Prison.

Didn’t he kill a relative of a state leader? Got ahold of her at a Subway in WBR Parish?

Mari Ann Fowler, wife of former jailed Louisana Elections Commissioner, Jerry Fowler. She was on the way to visit him in prison.

LINK

quote:

Mari was last seen standing outside a Subway sandwich shop in a strip mall on Louisiana Highway 415 west of Port Allen, Louisiana at 5:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve, 2002. Investigators believe she was abducted from that location.

Mari's belongings were found scattered on the pavement shortly after she disappeared, along with some of her acrylic fingernails which were possibly torn off in her struggle with her abductor. Robbery was probably not the motive for her kidnapping, as her food, purse and keys were left behind and wrapped Christmas presents were found in the backseat of her car.

A surveillance camera videotaped a General Motors pickup truck speeding away from the Subway around the time Mari disappeared. Tire tracks, possibly from the abduction vehicle, were found in the parking lot of the strip mall. The camera also caught the abduction suspect on tape but the image was not of sufficient quality to be used to identify anyone.

At the time of her disappearance, Mari was on her way to visit her husband, Jerry Fowler, a former Louisiana Elections Commissioner who was serving a five-year sentence in a Texas federal prison for bribery. He resigned his position in 1999 and pleaded guilty to receiving kickbacks from voting machine contractors. Jerry's lawyers tried to get him furloughed from prison so he could help search for Mari, but they were unsuccessful. Investigators don't believe Jerry's criminal activities have anything to do with Mari's abduction. He died in 2009.

Authorities believe Mari's disappearance may be related to Derrick Todd Lee, the so-called Baton Rouge Serial Killer. A photograph of Lee is posted below this case summary. He has been charged with six other murders, attempted murder, and rape. He has been charged with murder in the disappearance of Randi Mebruer and is considered a suspect in the disappearances of Melinda McGhee and Glenn Tankersley as well.

I almost beat SVG's arse one day at the Circle K he worked at on Lee.

I rode my bike to that Circle K all the time in the 94-96 time frame. We used to cut through to Lee from Burgin, which I believe is the street he lived on. Wild.

Edit: looked up his old address and his house was right where we cut through.

DTL's murder of Charlotte Murray Pace was supposedly nightmare fuel. She fought back and managed to hurt him pretty good. But that apparently pissed him off enough to really flip the frick out.

There were some gnarly rumors around this time.. When they finally got him, her murder was the one they mostly convicted him on.

It’s been so long I don’t remember what ever came of him having a white truck or not. How I remember the white truck coming up was after one of the victims was found off the basin bridge (Whiskey Bay exit?) a 18-wheeler driver came forward and said he passed a white truck with what looked like a naked body in the passenger seat in the days before.

I know the attorney that got Derrick Todd Lee off of like 10 peeping Tom charges in Zachary. Only had to plead to one. Oh what might have been...

Yep. This was my parents neighborhood growing up, we would cut thru that little section of woods as well to get to the circle K he worked at all the time. Was pretty sketchy when we found out the details and where he lived.

I saw DTL in his cage back during our high school field trip to Angola. It was weird he just stared at us as we walked by like he was some zoo animal

I was living in Tigerland in 2001-2002, half a mile away from where Charlotte Murray Pace was killed. I remember all the radio ads for self defense classes for women, and pepper spray selling like hot cakes. As others have said it was a really weird time. Like a palpable air of suspense hung over BR. Even as a knucklehead college age kid usually inebriated and being an idiot with other knuckleheads kids, we were vigilant and very protective of the girls in our group we went out with. I would occasionally have to drive up to cenla and pass the Whiskey Bay exit on the way and it would always creep me out. Still to this day it's the first thing I think of anytime I drive on the bridge. I remember being shocked when DTL was caught because we all had the image of it being a middle age white guy.

I remember in high school a couple kids were making out around a cemetery in Zachary. A guy on foot came up to the car and tried to kill them. Carved the dude up pretty good but I guess they put up enough of a fight for him to run off. Real horror movie stuff.

Rumors always swirled it was DTL.

I'm a pretty big white guy that fit the original police profile, lived around LSU and drove a white truck. I got a lot of odd looks at red lights.

I met my wife around that time, and she said she was pretty hesitant to go out with me because of this, but we had a few mutual friends and they told her there's no way he's the serial killer.

I bet real serial killer's friends have said that too though.

Sean gillis lived across the street from some dudes I knew that rented a house

They said he would stand out in the front yard sometimes

they rented that house from my wife’s uncle

at the time of his spree, my wife lived in one of her uncle’s rent houses on Burgin Ave three houses down from gillis

she said he never cut his grass and he and his wife would stand in their driveway or front yard smoking. his house was the neighborhood creepy house

my MIL worked in the infirmary at Angola until 2016

she saw gillis a few times and she spent a lot of time with DTL because he had chronic heart disease. she said DTL was weirdly charismatic but country dumb. he would go into the infirmary for treatment and she would sit with him. they never talked about the murders, he would ask her questions about the news in the world and she would try to explain things to him.

she said gillis never talked unless answering medical questions

she also said gillis had a darkness around him but DTL just seemed like a harmless halfwit

I was a student during the time gillis was active and we often went to the CK on lee where his wife worked and talked to her all the time. gillis killed Ann Bryan in the retirement home across the street and dumped a victim in the coulee right below the old Noah’s Ark pet store off of highland

three years ago the gillis house came on the market and my wife’s uncle went to look at it to buy it. he said the real estate agent was honest about the history of the house but he passed because his wife said hell no. Gillis butchered a victim in the kitchen and the house had a really bad vibe to it

I knew two guys that ended up moving into that unit because it was super cheap. I went over once. Didn’t like the vibes.
