His claim was it was too good to be true, not that the methods weren’t believable. I guess you fell for it.
This. He was giving 12% returns on CDs when the legitimate rate was around 3%. Anyone who thought it was a legitimate business was a fool. I know several who lost about $5MM each. It was hard for me not to laugh in their face when they lost it all. AFAIK the claw backs were not successful.

The place I’m thinking of was called Giovanni’s
Yeah. The part owner/manager was running prostitutes out of there. They also had some crazy back room poker games in there with state senators and reps when session was in. A bunch of arrests were made, but it was all swept under the rug.
Giovanni’s is where Superior on Highland is
now.

The case made a big splash in 2001 with talk of political corruption, prostitution and drug trafficking.
A flurry of arrests followed, including the booking of a friend and business partner of state House Speaker Charles DeWitt. Now the case is stalled - no indictments have been returned, no motions have been filed in months and a restaurant that figured in the scandal has closed.

30 year old me had my first chunk of money and knew it didn’t make sense. He was paying 10 points on average for three years with most recent at 12 points , while every bank in town was paying 3 points. It didn’t make a lick of sense unless you were greedy and WANTED to believe. Needless to say the local money guy who had a local radio show on Saturday morning that tried to sell Sanford to me went belly up. Fortunately I had my money in the legitimate market through a legit banking house.

This is 100% made up. Stanford's spreads on CD's were never more than 2-3% above the currently US CD rates. The highest the CD rates got at Bank One (Eventually Chase) was 5-yr 7% rates. So Stanford's brokers were competing with a 5-yr 9% rate. It amazes me how little you guys know of this.

Looks like ‘Ol Pastor Dino has bounced back, and is thriving in ministry. Has his hand in MANY different aspects of church life. Lately, there’s been many large churches in Texas that seem to have pastors that have had a “lapse in judgment.” Read somewhere that Dino helps “rehabilitate” pastors who have taken missteps.

he whole scott rogers thing was pretty crazy...
That was pretty crazy and I kind of forgot the whole situation, but I know a family who had ties to him by relation or through something and I just being something random that I found out about once it all went down and it was just kind of out of the blue that there was a connection with those folks and him.

How is this only at four pages long in 8 hours? BTR isn't New Orleans, but do better people. We should already be at 10+ pages.

What are the biggest scandals/stories when you think of Baton Rouge?
Not really a “scandal” but the Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash happened when the band was traveling from South Carolina to BR for a show at LSU.
Crash site is just southwest of McComb

Can't talk about BR scandals without Dr. Billy Cannon printing counterfeit bills in the old building across Stanford Ave. from the Lakes. The man went from a great athlete to a common criminal to a saint.
God Bless Him.
God Bless Him.
