Looking for some of that valuable OT advice.

Family is relocating to BR and we are trying to narrow down where to look for a home. Most likely somewhere in the 400-550k range. Could push 600 if needed. Definitely trying to find a safe, comfortable area where the kids can play outside, ride bikes, etc.

We have seen a few decent homes in Uclub that are nice. Seem to have great amenities.

I see several people have recommended Oak Hill subdivision. Just based on the few houses I have seen, It seemed like the neighborhood may be a bit dated? Are people starting to renovate homes? I may have just seen an older section.

Housing prices are crazy right now so we are considering renting for 6 months to a year to see what the market does. Any areas for rental homes that you would recommend?

Part II- Any OTers have knowledge of the catholic elementary schools? A bit worried everyone may be full/waitlisted for the upcoming year. Everyone is on summer hours so having some trouble reaching the schools for info.

Thoughts and any other recommendations would be great appreciated.

U Club and Oak Hills are good suggestions.

Try some of the neighborhoods off Highland between Kenilworth and LSU )like Woodstone, Woodgate, etc. They occasionally have some that pop up in that price range.

Santa Maria is another good area, but the traffic gets really heavy along that side of I-10 along Old Perkins.

Inventory is low now.

Welcome to Baton Rouge. We bought in the BR metro in October. Got almost everything we wanted for about $600K. So it’s definitely possible.

Oak Hills Place is a solid idea in your range. Look at Southdowns too. You are wayyyy within the range of being in a nice area. Call St George and tell them you want your kids to go there and they will most likely let you in.

Where are you moving from? Any wiggle room to get to 700k?

Do you want a reno or a McMansion? Both have positives and negatives. Choose wisely.

IEJT....older subdivision (at least in the front part) but has quite a few lots up for sale and lot of renovation and new construction going on as well.

Just to be safe, if you choose to build, build up a tad bit

We just considered moving back after our last visit at Easter. I can tell you St George had some openings in 2nd and 6th for next year. That was a couple of months ago though.

If you want a newer home that's probably even in the Rouzan range. Nice newer homes but sort of on top of each other in typical modern fashion. Your wife could walk to Sprouts in her yoga pants though.

White Oak Landing area is real quiet with large yards. St. Jean Vianney school is near there and usually has openings.

The Lakes at Jamestown is real nice. It’s in the lower end of your price range. There are always kids playing outside.
