re: Baton Rouge Mayor - Sid Edwards beats Sharon Weston Broome

I could not get over the Stormwater MS4 issue where Broome tried to add an illegal "fee" to our utility bills to pay for a possible EPA fine and consent degree; stemming from the years of mismanagement and neglect of the parish's storm water system. Not to mention, in BR fashion, they probably would have found a way to scoop this money into the general fund.

They are also years behind with getting their permits with DEQ renewed.

Hopefully Sid can find someone qualified among the dozens of major consulting firms blocks away from city hall.

can we also circle back for a minute to how bad of a night it was for Ted James:
1. SWB is finally pretty vulnerable as even some of her biggest supporters are jumping ship. You even get the backing of idiot republicans dying to make the same mistake they made with Broome by supporting you. Things are turning up Ted.
2. A well liked football coach enters the race out of no where, eh we aren't concerned. We'll continue to attack Sharon and how she's greatly failed the city.
3. Election night....whoops that football coach trounces you and you don't make the run off.
4. Sharon calls and says "hey come lick my taint like the bitch you are, endorse me, I'll give you a job since you're a government leech, and in 4 years I'll hand the baton off to you. " Sure you'll look like a total bitch pulling a 180 but hey $20 is $20.
5. Election night....whoops the damn football coach wins again. You now get jack shite in employment and you're probably way down in the pecking order to run again as you've hilariously proved you have about 0 political clout.

well from dummies that thought of him as the lesser of two evils. Showed his true colors when he tucked tail and backed Broome, can't imagine that bought him any goodwill by burning them.

This needs to be its own thread. I know for sure Scott McKnight was one. Got one of those texts with him shaking hands with Ted and telling me to vote for him because there was no way Sid could win. Hopefully it gets brought up when any of them are running in the future. Don't need weak Republicans in office.

With both James and SWB in the race it was a foregone conclusion Sid would "win" the primary election as basically the only R candidate with any name recognition/support. The white James supporters knew that, but figured if they could get him through to the runoff their support + the black support would easily carry him over Sid.

Except...they didn't count on James losing to SWB. Once that happened they were screwed. The black and white James voters didn't show up, and they few that did voted for Sid.
