My son just completed his Freshman year at BRMHS. He made straight A's throughout the year but hates going to school there. He is begging me to let him transfer to Lee Magnet HS for his Sophomore year with one of the reasons being that Lee will be starting a baseball team this school year and he has always played baseball up until last year because BRMHS does not have a baseball team. I am very happy with the education that he received in his freshman year and also with the grades that he made. He went to private school for Pre-K - 8th grade and BRMHS was much more challenging. How much of a step down academically is Lee Magnet High School vs BRMHS? I know LEE is just getting started and BRMHS is established. Also, are the schools demographically similar? Would you let your son transfer from BRMHS to Lee Magnet HS because he wants to play baseball. I'm torn as I want him to have the option to play baseball for his school but I also want him to get the best education possible.

A friend's son attends Lee. He is incredibly smart and loves it there. Dude recently scored a 33 on the ACT

Tell him to buck up and not be a pussy and finish BRMHS.

Nah, I'm just kidding. I graduated from there and thought that it sucked that they didn't have the big 3 sports. I played baseball, too. If you think your kid can make the team and handle it along with his school workload then transfer him.

I would stay put. Lee is BRMHS Diet Rite. Lots of bells and whistles. BRMHS is still seen as superior.

*unless Atheltics are something that can get him to college.

If the school he goes to doesn’t offer a sport, can’t he play for a different school that does offer that sport?

You’ll get more of the “high school experience” at Lee. Lee is still roughly new to the scene.

But academic wise, BR High is still a notch above.

This is something I have tried telling people

THe magnet schools in BR and Nola (Baton rouge high, ben franklin, etc) offer good educations, but they for a certain "type of kid"

It is more for the arts and musical kind that like weed and phish, less likely for the bud heavy and coke crowd that like country music and sports

I tend to agree with this but the wife and my son see it another way.

This is not an option. I have explored this with the principal of BRMHS and also the EBR Athletic Director.

Lee had some issues this past year
They are changing principals and hopefully things will improve
The BRHS principal was also there helping get them started but she is now all BRHS again

What university is your son targetting?

If he is going to LSU, he can certainly earn acceptance into the Honors College there with a diploma from Lee and a good ACT score.

Why not skip the middleman and send him straight to Angola? That’s where public school kids end up
