My kid goes to Lee high and absolutely loves it. He says he gets a lot of opportunities there that will apply to his career one day. He wants to be a ufc fighter when he grows up

Why not stop the free public ed and just spend 20 grand a year for Episcopal? You gotta be an OT 10 no?

You should play a joke on your kid.
"Good news son! You are gonna be playing some ball next spring! We got you in. You're gonna be a Tara Trojan!"

Did your son not want to join the other teams at Baton Rouge high? They have ballet, clarinet, and theatrical dance teams

Make your son happy and send him to that beautiful new school in the heart of Southdowns.

Would he even be eligible to play next year with the LHSAA transfer rules...The baseball team would probably be terrible, it is going to take a few years to get the athletics up to a decent level

Should be since his school doesn’t offer baseball. I really thought he could play where he’s zoned and attend the magnet since they don’t offer it.

My kids all went or currently attend BRMHS. I have one your son's age. My daughter is able to do gymnastics at BRMHS and the other two were musicians ( guitarists) so BRMHS is the perfect school for us. If your son truly loves baseball, and you think he'll stay committed to his academics and still get a great education, why not send him to Lee. Lee may not be BRMHS, but I hear it's pretty solid. With the caveat that almost every kid hates their freshman year.

I have no dog in this fight regarding either school. I say let him switch... but ONLY if he is a self-driven kind of kid/learner.
Is he the kind of kid that reads on his own, asks questions about the world, asks to travel, etc.? Then that’s a kid who would succeed anywhere, regardless of high school.
There are worse things than allowing a high performing kid some control over his destiny. Be thankful you have a kid engaged in the process.

I've done some substitute teaching for the magnet high schools, and i can guarantee you the chicks at Lee are both hotter and sluttier.

I transferred from a boarding school to a BR private school so I could play football. It killed me academically but I did enjoy the football. It's always a trade off.

THe magnet schools in BR and Nola (Baton rouge high, ben franklin, etc) offer good educations, but they for a certain "type of kid"
It is more for the arts and musical kind that like weed and phish, less likely for the bud heavy and coke crowd that like country music and sports
BRMHS was also seen by me as the nerd, unathletic school with an artsy goth twist. Indians/Asians and some art weirdos driving Kia Soul's.
I went to Episcopal FWIW and we had a bit of it all.

Personally I just know that if my parents would have sent me to a high school where I couldn't plays the sports I loved, it would have been a miserable four years.
FWIW, your dilemma is why many parents in BR send their kid to private school. It isn't as much for the religious aspect as much as it is the ability for their children to receive a good education and play sports.

As BR has had a lot of immigrants, they have found their way to BRMHS. The guy from Lebanon who owns a restaurant and can't pay 10 grand per kid or the girl from China who has a Dad who is an engineer at Exxon probably goes to BRHMS. Lots of crazy-smart immigrant kids headed to great colleges. And really by far, the most academically-accomplished black kids in Baton Rouge. As for weirdos and druggies-yeah they have that too. But mostly just normal smart kids. If you don't want your kid having friends from all races though, it's not for you. You can't hide from real world BR demographics at BRMHS.
