It’s The Unfiltered with Kiran article. Land grab attempt near LSU.

Just sounds like a family dispute. Nothing to see here.

Hope they can hold on to it. No one should be forced off of their property.

It’s an interesting technique: pass a tax on property where no one lives, so you don’t have to get their vote or input. Seems like there could be some legislation to address this, an actual issue, as opposed to all the BS they address in the session.

Too bad the Louisiana legislature is so corrupt and incompetent.

I'm confused.
The family owns the land and has for generations.
The family doesn't want to sell the land.
This third party (Stringfellow) had a feasability study done on the land and pitched the land as being part of the EDD, his development.
The council is voting to develop it without the family's consent.
How is this possible? This isn't an eminent domain thing.

People have been shot and killed over a $2 dice game , just saying.

My dad was friends with a guy who lived on and managed that property in the 80s-90s. He called it the "oil patch".
We'd hang out around there, shooting guns, riding a 4 wheeler and jsut passing a good time while they sat on the porch drinking beers.
Was a great way to spend a Sunday as a kid.
It felt like we were way out in the country despite being a mile from LSU.
I don't think they're being forced to sell, the EDD just makes a potential buyer have to charge a higher tax rate if they DO sell. So they may not get as good an offer.

The council isn't voting to develop the land. They are voting to approve an economic development taxing district. I don't have an issue with TIF districts, but in this case the landowner should be able to exclude themselves.
The more common scenario is the developer and landowner enter into some sort of agreement before the property sale. Usually has to do with gaining zoning, variances, or in this case taxing considerations. But typically this is when both parties are on the same page. According to the article it appears that isn't the case...or at least one member of the family.

Lisa Duplantier, one of the members of the family who owns more than half of the land within the EDD’s boundaries, said the family doesn’t oppose a sports complex in principle. But she and other family members felt blindsided when they learned about the proposal only days before that vote in April.
This is the way the Metro Council and most parishes in this area operate; by the time land/homeowners find out about a development the deal has already been done and they're out-of-luck.

Do EDD's have to be zoned industrial or commercial prior to the district being established? It seems like setting up an EDD over a swath of private property like that is a waste of time.

Initially a developer was going to build a new arena on the old golf course property, let LSU use it for about 70 athletic events a year, and on the other dates the developer would use it as he saw fit for concerts, etc.
Remember?
Now
Supposedly there’s an economic development district to help fund the arena. If you buy a Coke at the Box you pay the tax.
Now this.

The cooperative endeavor agreement covers a 25-year period. The first effect will be that, beginning in July, shoppers who patronize businesses in the EDD will pay an extra 2 percent sales tax. That’s typical of an EDD, and that money funds some of the development.
What’s different with the Bayou Fountain EDD is that money from that additional sales tax will, over time, stop going to the EDD and start going to city-parish coffers. At the start of the project, the money will go entirely to the EDD, but by the end, it will be entirely city-parish money.
I can’t believe that is allowed in the law.

Sounds like the whole thing is a ploy to devalue the land to set some special interest entity up for a sweetheart deal. I think they’re messing with the wrong people. The Jen Racca tie in is interesting. The quotes from her sound really overly-invested and suspect—almost like the family speaking out somehow directly hurts her—so wouldn’t be surprised if some kind of corruption shite comes out of this.

Sounds like Stringfellow is a shady SOB.

Will be very interesting to see what comes out of today’s Metro Council meeting.

You say this about Stringfellow, but have you seen his list of investors? Joe Burrow, Todd Graves & several more heavy hitters
Posted on 6/24/26 at 2:26 pm to AV8R
Stringfellow is the old LSU Athletic Trainer right?
Posted on 6/24/26 at 2:42 pm to Redlos
That would be a safe assumption.
