My apology, I should have realized you thought we all were Hicks living in the sticks still using bucket brigades.

Next time I’ll know.

also, it's pretty shitty these cuts are being forced on parish offices like the DAs office. imagine the shortfall for the city if the parish services were left without decrease and only BR-city ones faced cuts

The article is bogus, SG had budget over 1.2 million dollars for the DA since its a constitutional mandated agency.

The DA’s current budget is paid by the state, grants, fines, the city/parish and other sources with the city/parish providing nearly half.

The DA will be made whole

EBR didn’t want to encourage the areas to incorporate into BR because they wanted to keep the money and not provide services and now want to sue to prevent them from becoming St George because they want to keep the money and not provide services.

Notice that the parish is pissed because they had our money ear-marked for projects outside of where we live. frick Dem.

All I read is that the city was overspending and a lot of the departments are bloated.

You do realize that most fire departments are run by parishes/counties and not individual cities, right? It’s not a huge stretch for someone to think that BRFD was in control of fire protection for that area.

No one insinuated that people in that area were “hicks” with “bucket brigades.” Not only do I not think that StG is full of “hicks” or whatever, my family actually owns property there. You assuming that I felt that way just sounds like a manifestation of some untreated inferiority complex you’re dealing with.

SWB knows it is political suicide to cut funding to public safety.

Whoever challenges her in the next election for EBR Parish President needs to run on a public safety platform.

Her voters generally don’t give a shite about “public safety” unless a settlement check is involved.

The question is whether the rest of the parish turns out in significant numbers.

We’ve discussed SG on here for over five years. I was thinking everyone involved in this thread understood the situation.

Sorry, I guess I should not have assumed as much.

The fact is we pay property taxes for our own fire dept. if you own property in SG then you pay for fire protection too.

Good news is all that property tax for SGFD goes to SGFD; it’s the sales tax and parish property taxes and business taxes that BR uses from SG to pay fir their PD and FD.

With a grain of salt, I'm a Northshore resident without any real knowledge of her record beyond what is posted here, but she's not really expected to serve another term right?
People have to be tired of this shite?

Lol, no.

She has the support of North BR (large voting bloc) plus the money men at BR Area Chamber and BR Area Foundation, who are violently opposed to St George.

She is running, it is a question as to whether someone can get the money and support to beat her.

Truth.

You'd think they learned their lesson after the last election, but a lot will depend on who Broome's challenger is. If it's Matt Watson, as some seem to think, he would be a good choice.

I believe they're intentionally overstating the extent of the cuts to Baton Rouge to give more weight to the lawsuit. Similar to JBE threatening to cancel LSU football.

BINGO! Also, Broome will not dare cut BRPD nor BRFD.

Fine - then stay out of BR, St George. Don't work there, and don't play there.
They want the benefits of city living, and let someone else pick up the costs. Free riders and malingerers.

LOL at any moron who believes this quote:

quote:

loss of nearly 500 employees in the city's police and fire departments,

This is the oldest trick in the book by Cities/Mayors. They ALWAYS play the cut police and firemen shite. That's older than the Earth has been a planet.

And you still have a dipshit in this thread believing it. LOL

The Baton Rouge Fire Department, in its message to the administration, said having to slash 20% from its budget, approximately $9.9 million, would make it impossible to maintain its Class 1 rating, the top classification. If it lowers, the insurance rates for the property owners would increase.

To hell with BRFD. There will be no difference in insurance rates in a class 1 vs a class 2 rating.

Only BR should have the benefits of city living. Shame on SG for wanting the same things.

And the Advocate article linked by the OPer proves it.
